Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

they are ~5% larger than OE recommended sizes though.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

i have 295/35-18 pirelli sottozeros on my 996 for the winter.
on 993 turbo twist replicas 18x10.
they fit on my car with stock suspension. no rubbing. fill out the arches a bit more. no fender rolling required. they are ~5% larger than OE recommended sizes though. so be aware of speedometer and odometer shifts.
Personally I wouldn't want to go taller than 275/35R18 rear (great winter size). While the 295 sizes might fit they are really too wide for nasty winter conditions and IMHO a 996 with 295/35s on the rear looks terrible because it raises the ride height ~0.5" over stock.

The fender lips have been rolled and there is a *slight* bit of scrub turning at full lock.
295/35-18 these are pirelli sottozeros. 18x10 et65 and 18x8 et50
i think the argument about narrower winter tires for breaking through snow and whatnot is probably negligible. winter performance tires aren't meant for consistent packed snow or ongoing multiple inches of fresh snow anyway. if that were the case, i'd probably just get a set of non-performance snows, or even studded tires.
also, the 0.5 inch increase in ride height is probably offset to your eye by the wheel well gap that is eliminated by the larger diameter tire.
anyway, as far as size goes. if youre on a stock suspension, they'll fit fine. maybe some rubbing at full lock and on a slope, but haven't encountered that yet.
