Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

So I finally decided to either clean the MAF or replace it as I was tired of clearing the CEL once a week or so but when I went to take it off I discovered that it is held on by screws that I do not have a driver for.

I didn't disconnect the battery when I replaced my MAF nor did I do it when I removed my intake to clean and oil.

No need to disconnect the battery (although if you do it's the NEG).

I am curious do you have to disconnect the negative battery terminal before disconnecting the MAF sensor?
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I didn't disconnect the battery when I replaced my MAF nor did I do it when I removed my intake to clean and oil. I did though, have the car turned off with no key in the ignition.
negative cable is whats suppose to be removed, but no you will not hurt anything
u can unplug the maf with the engine running (not recomneded but i have done it 1000 times in testing) and not hurt anything. howerver if your cleanng it make sure its clean and dry before you plug it back in
Thanks guys! Didn't think there was a real need to disconnect the neg. terminal. I think you are safe as long as the key is not in the ignition and on or car running.
Hi all. New to this forum and yes I will post pics of my car shortly on my webpage.

So I finally decided to either clean the MAF or replace it as I was tired of clearing the CEL once a week or so but when I went to take it off I discovered that it is held on by screws that I do not have a driver for. Can I pick one up at the local autozone or pepboys? What do you call it. I can just see myself trying to describe it to the guy at the counter. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks, Oscar
Here is the definitive thread on MAF (it's a torx driver T-20). No need to disconnect the battery (although if you do it's the NEG). If you have CEL you should get the codes as it may not be the MAF!!!!

thanks. Just ordered a security bit set. the codes that I am getting consistently is P1123 and P1125. My understanding is that these faults are usually triggered by a faulty MAF.
