Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I posted the question earlier "How long does your fan run?" because my fan seems to be running longer than usual. 1999 Porsche 911 said to make sure the sensor near the intake did not come loose and fall onto the manifold. I could not find any loose wires or houses; however, just below the intake is a clamp that is not holding anything. below is a phot, anyone know what is to go there? Also, I noticed that my coolant is a little low, this is at eye level after the car has sat for 24 hr. Do you think I need to add coolant right away or is it good for a while? Temp seems fine on the gauge (180).

POST 2Original post

top off the coolant when its cold to the max line, the clamp is for the 02 sensor wires the blue and black ones in the picture. the temp sensor is on the pass side in between the intake runners at the top, if it fall of you will get a fault n the dash for engine compart, ment fan faulty

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

i did get that and it cleared out though, where exactly should I look on pasanger side.

POST 4Original post

That looks very familiar...exactly how my coolant level was, I topped it up and watched it daily, after few days it went a little down again. Not one drop of anything on my garage floor. Then, all of a sudden...WHAM! "Check coolant" light came on and "Flashing" light on temp gauge. Later when I was parked, there was a puddle of coolant. And the story goes on...(check my thread "Coolant Leak Today!" if you are interested).

POST 5Original post

pass side inrake runners with the engine cold run you hand between them towards the top between the the first and second or the second and third i dont remeber which, you should find your sensor in a rubber gromet, just visualy check for coolant on the ground if thers none there just top it off. they are low alot

POST 6Original post

I have learnt a good lesson from my recent coolant leak experience. No coolant on the floor doesn't mean there is no leak. Some leaks occur with high pressure, when the engine is running. And I believe what all the guys here have been saying, the coolant should NOT be low. Slight loss over a loooooong time, maybe. But loss over a few days, or even weeks...means there is a leak somewhere. I would have it checked before it hits you unexpectedly one day at the most inconvenient time and place.

POST 7Original post

over a few days is execessive a few weeks.....small amount is marginal , if coolant is leaking it should be visible. wether on the ground or on the car. Theres still pressure in the system after the car is off while its hot, if its leaking it shouldnt be a suprise, and 99.9% of the time you can smell it when the cars hot

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well, I did not want to take any chances, especially since I started to smell antifreeze. Took it to my Indy. and found out it is a leaking water pump. I am going to have them replace the expansion tank while thery are in there since it is the old tank and cap. Glad I did not roll with it as it would have eventally gone on me.

POST 9Original post

A similar thing happened to me (actually my wife) about 3 months ago. It was the first time in about a year she had bothered to take the car out on her own. I felt bad for her. Anyway, our water pump didn't leak, it just came apart. She saw the light come on and shut the car off. I did the expansion tank and cap and thermostat while we were in there. I feel better knowing now that the bulk of the cooling system has been refreshed. Porsche coolant is not cheap though! Holy crap it was expensive. Have a good weekend, Boys. Jason

YEAH IF YOU CAN SMELL IT THERS SOMETHIGN WRONG FOR SURE GLAD YA FOUND IT
