Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suspected cause
Excellence Magazine had an article about some company that tunes GT3's (I forget their name at the moment, issue is downstairs) and they said that ALL of the Porsche wheels were simply too heavy and I think they use some 18's that weigh like 12-14lbs each.
Leading evidence: 'downstairs) and they said' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'downstairs) and they said' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Recommend upgrade' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

If I remember correctly, they were using custom BBS one-piece forged rims.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I am looking for 18" wheels to replace my 17" stockers. From the list below, which Porsche 18" x 10" wheel is the lightest?
1. 02 18" Carrera 5 spoke
2. Sport Design (GT3 Supercup style)
3. Sport Classic (Y shape BBS Style)
4. Hollow turbo
How do they compare to the 17" stockers?
99 C2 Cab Ocean Blue
You can forget the Sport Design and Sport Classic II. They are both heavier than the other two.
Hollow Spoke Turbo I:
8" x 18" - ET52 - 19.95 lb
10" x 18" - ET65 - 23.36 lb
18" Carrera:
8" x 18" - ET50 - 20.50 lb
10" x 18" - ET65 - 22.70 lb
Viken's #'s are correct here are some #'s I received from wheel enhancements.com
17" are the lightest but the 18" 5 spoke come very close...
Here are wheel weights for comparison:

A set of new 7.5x18" and 10x18"
Factory Technology hollow spoke wheels is $2,500.00, plus shipping, as this
size combination is available as a package from Porsche. Here are the
weights of the hollow spoke wheels:
7.5x18" 20 lbs. 8 oz.
8x18" 20 lbs. 1 oz.
10x18" 24 lbs. 4 oz.
Viken,
Do you think you will see a decrease in acceleration when going from 17" to the 5-spokes... I know they are almost they same weight with a difference of 1lb... but the mass is further from the center of the wheel hence a higher coefficient of rotational mass... I understand the math just don't know what it translates to on the road... I know the 18" twisties (non-hollow) make the car feel lethargic...
I have the 17" and even when I increase tire pressure by a few psi I notice a decrease in throttle response... ???
regards,
Peter
LOL! Are you sure? I think it's in your head. The differences are too small for anyone to feel anything. To notice a difference in handling with lower unsprung weight, you'd have to be going at somewhat illegal speeds.
Yes, illegal speeds is correct!
heres a dumb question.... what advantage do the 18" 5-spokes have over the 17".... would you recommend the upgrade to the 5 spokes?
thanks
Peter
Looks.
Sure. If you want cooler looking wheels and tires. OTOH, if you are happy with the ride and handling of your 17's, I wouldn't touch them. I think a better set of tires on the existing 17's is a much better upgrade than a whole new set of wheels and tires. Especially, if you can find even lighter tires. The new Pilot Sport PS2 is especially soft and light. Pirelli is also known for making relatively lighter tires.
Thanks Viken,
you mean going with the 18" 5-spoke yields no handling or cornering advantage??
I have the Bridgestone S02-A and am very happy with them but I will also try the Pilot Sport SP2 when I'm done with the Bridgestones...
uh the numbers are a bit off these are what I have from research and wheel enhancement:
Turbo Look I wheels:
7.5" x 18" = 24.91 lbs. 49.82
10" x 18" = 29.32 lbs. 58.64
108.48
18" Carrera wheels:
8" x 18" = 20.50 lbs.; 19; 38
10" x 18" = 22.70 lbs.; 23.6; 47.2
85.2; 23.28
Sport Classic IIs
18 by 7.5 = 22
18 by 10 = 28
BBS RE
8.5 x 18 = 20.8; 41.6
10 x 18 = 22; 44
85.6; 22.88
Einke TR03+M
8.5 x 18 = 19.4; 38.8
10 x 18 = 21.3; 42.6
81.4; 27.08
the additional numbers are for ease of calculating what the total differences were when i was contemplating what to get.
