I was just recently looking at a 5-owner 2001 GT3 aero kit narrow body carrera 996 from wisconsin with a 2-owner replaced engine with 11k original miles and 21k current miles and 115k or so on the body. The engine went at 100k and so did the driveshaft as it usually does and they where both replaced at a garage that works on Porsche.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

Also the suspension. All receipts included over 20k spent on car and VIN number on the receipts. Not a Porsche dealership. It is tiptronic and all original. Price we agreed on 18.5k. Is this a good deal? No ppi. I trust this seller, sounds like a stand up guy. Idk how he afforded a porsche by his profession, he must be rich.

I fixed it for ya! No bloke on the internet can tell you better than a real live mechanic who's actually looked at the car recently if it's a good deal.

POST 3Original post

p.s. a PPI will be about $300. Or, in your case, about 1.5% of the purchase price.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

This deal was so hard to find dude, what is your opinion on the quality of the deal have it be a perfect car? Which I think it is by the way... Will the PPI need to be at like a garage or just in person? Do they look at the replaced suspension, engine, driveshaft?

POST 5Original post

Im confused by this? JMHO but you really need to do more research on the 996. Is this a C4 (AWD)? If its not, it doesnt have one. What is your obsession about the driveshaft?

POST 6Original post

Price is fine, assuming you are ok with tiptronic. Not a steal, but a good price. you must get a ppi, even if you are buying from your mother. It is the car that is being inspected, not the seller. Seller might be a great guy but unaware of a defect with the car. Ppi price depends on how in depth you want to be. The two I had done when looking were about $115 each. Fwiw in April I bought a 1999 aero coupe 6 speed with recently replaced engine with 61k on the engine and 132k on the chassis for $18500. Car was in nice shape but not perfect, but just had new imsb, rms, clutch and tires in last 1000 miles.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The seller convinced me it was important somehow. Like I dont know much about cars but like even didn't even cross my mind. Now that you mention, idk. But its a C2.

POST 8Original post

Hooray then. Your safe. No driveshaft! Like absolutely no pesky driveshaft problems.
