I have 20" OEM wheels for the car for my summer PZeros but i don't want to track on the 20s anymore - been advised by all the pros at the track to go down to 19s if I'm serious and using dedicated track rubber.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So I read https://motoiq.com/how-to-properly-s...r-performance/ Go read it. I will wait. Then went to tirerack. The Michelin Pilot sport PS2 is the default choice for WB 996. Here is where it gets interesting. The N3 295/30R18 tire has a tread width of 11.5 inches. According to Billy Johnson, that is too wide for the stock 11 inch rims! What does it matter, there are now N4 tires. Wait, it gets worse. In the N4 tires HAVE NO 225/40R18 tire. I repeat. No 225 section tire in N4. The N3 tire, if not already discontinued, will be soon. Then what? THEN WHAT?

Seems like a lot of hand wringing over half an inch and for something that Porsche themselves prescribe. If you're sticking to Porsche-approved "N3" or "N4" tires, I don't see why you'd question Porsche's own tire size recommendations. Even if you buy into that article, we're talking about 1/4" on each side. Plenty of turbros run 315's on the stock 11" wheel. Not saying I would, but you can. You can also run 235/40/18 + 295/30/18 without messing up the AWD. I would personally recommend that setup, as well as some tire tech that's newer than the PS2 (even if it's not N3/N4 rated). Falken RT-615K+, etc. EDIT: Upon re-reading more of the article, I don't think you're correctly interpreting his suggestions. Re-read section 1 of page 3: He's really just saying that a 10.5" wheel would be better than a 10" wide one for that particular 285 width tire -- he doesn't necessarily claim that the smaller tire is better on the existing rim. Regardless, a whole helluva a lotta hand wringing over 10mm. But I definitely agree that we need more options in WB sizes. *cough* Pilot Sport 4S *cough* Relevant thread over on the TT forum: https://rennlist.com/forums/996-turb...lin-tires.html

POST 4Original post

Will try to condense this issue down so it's easy to read: Have a 17' 991.2 base carrera and have 19" rims with OEM sized 235/40/19 fronts and 295//35/19 rears. I want to put Cup 2s on these wheels for track use only but Tire Rack and Michelin NA both tell me they don't make a Cup 2 in that exact factory size. Rather, they advise to get the GT3-homologated tire for the 19" rims but the size is a tiny bit different, but is assured to work fine: 245/35/19 F and 305/30/19 R. Any one have any thoughts on this, any concerns or stamps of approval? I cant be the first guy to put Cup 2s on 19" wheels for base Carrera for track use. Need feedback. I have 20" OEM wheels for the car for my summer PZeros but i don't want to track on the 20s anymore - been advised by all the pros at the track to go down to 19s if I'm serious and using dedicated track rubber. Help - and Michelin, WTF? couldn't make a factory-sized Cup 2 for one of the most commonly tracked cars in the country?? Huh?
