Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I installed an AutoCommand unit on my wife's automatic transmission family car.
Leading evidence: 'Install autocommand unit' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Install autocommand unit' (1 discussions). Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I would not attempt to do his on a car with a manual transmission.
There are a few issues which you will have to overcome. 1) you will have to disable the switch under the clutch so you don't need to have teh clutch depressed to start the car and, 2) this is a MAJOR issue, IMO, you wil have to remember to leave the car in Neutral every time you exit the car. If you override the clutch switch mentioned in #1 but attempt to start the car remotely when it is in gear, it will lurch forward (or backward if left in reverse), potentially hitting something or someone. There are too many downsides and HUGE liability issues for trying to do this in a car with a manual transmission.
Even on automatics, these aftermarket remote starters have caused no end of problems. An Infiniti dealer I know was selling and installing these ($900) remote starters because customers demanded them. They were a huge headache... trunks would power unlock every time the starter was activated. He stopped offering them within a few months.
used to have a long range one on my other car (AT).
being able to start up the car, warm it up in the cold NJ winter while walking out of train station worth every penny!
i believe u need to tell your ins. company if you do this kind of mod.
I had a Viper alarm/remote start in one of my other (AT) cars and loved it, too, but I wouldn't put one on any of my MT cars.
Never heard the insurance thing before, but I don't doubt that there are companies that would LIKE you to tell them if you do this. I doubt they're holding their breath waiting, though.
I've had them on 2 on mu AT's with no issues whatosever. I know of a few people with them on MT's -just not Porsche - thus the request for comments. From what I understand the issues of putting them on MT's can be avoided with new versions of the remote starters that are made specifically for MT's. The only known issue I know of is the obvious, don't park in gear, something I don't do anyway. I'll investigate and post what I find - but I have come to love starting my AT's about 5 minuted before I leave the house in the winter - makes all the difference and is good to warm them up.
It's a non-insurance issue.
I installed an AutoCommand unit on my wife's automatic transmission family car. Worked fine to warm up the car, but when we upgraded her car, it wasn't worth the $ to me to do again. Put another way, it was cool to have, but not a need to have. If you have heated seats, just as good IMHO.
However, happen to know the folks at AutoCommand/Designtech (no relation/interest) and the unit works well - they have a network of installers and you should be able to get advice/tech support by phone. When I bought mine, it was compatible with a manual transmission, at least according to the installer (not recommended by the manufacturer)
Good luck,
Eric
