Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I don't know how long your screws sat in position, but I started using my rack a few weeks after I bought the car and haven't left the screws in for more than a couple of months at a time ever since.

Just curious about how my fellow 996 brethren are using their cars.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Don't have any recommendations to help you, but I'm just curious to know how you intend to use it. Bike? Ski's? Luggage??? I bought one when I bought my car to haul my bike around when I can't tie-up my wife's SUV. Just curious about how my fellow 996 brethren are using their cars.
Since I am an avid cyclist (mtb and road) I just purchased one of these from ebay with one bike attachment for the same reason, don't always want to tie up the wifes A6 avant just to go for a ride. I'de say ebay is the way to go.
Livenupe, to attach this to my car do I unsrew the metal piece that is under the flap? and then screw in the roof rack foot?
Thanks - Paul
I bought it in '98 with my first 996 for my bike. I've used it maybe twice, but it's a great system (made by Thule). Under the flaps in the roof is a screw that comes out and then the feet screw right into the roof. It's incredibly secure, we drove triple-digit speeds with 2 bikes up there (in the rain!). It stopped raining by the time we reached our destination and the bikes were completely dry. One of these days, I'll put it on the GT3 just for laughs.
Wow, those little screws are impossible to get out. Just snapped the head off one of my craftsman screw drivers that was sized appropriate to fit. These are not budging, gonna have to try to soak them in WD40 or something before I destroy the heads. Anyone run into this?
I'm actually looking to get racks to put on my surfboard for when i feel like going to a beach not in walking distance. Probably take it to the mountains when it's not chain requiring weather too.
I've never had a problem getting the screws out. I don't know how long your screws sat in position, but I started using my rack a few weeks after I bought the car and haven't left the screws in for more than a couple of months at a time ever since.
