Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Have you checked/replaced the control arm link and control arm?(coffin arm)
Leading evidence: 'Check /' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'tire' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check /' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I tried alternately swapping both front wheels with the spare, and that did not eliminate the vibration (or even change it much), so I'm thinking the tire isn't the culprit here - again, getting that checked via RF balancer next week.

I've now replaced both front rims- the one on driver's side was also dinged, even though that side did not take the pot hole hit!

If you search my posts, you'll see something similar just happened to me 2 months ago, took out a front and rear rim, tires were replaced but still weren't flat.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Got a replacement rim (stock Carrera Lightweight), remounted tire, and still getting vibration up front, particularly at high speed.
I took a massive hit to the front right wheel at 60mph - hit a pavement deviation on the edge of the road (essentially a pothole). Amazingly the tire did not go flat, but the rim was severely deformed. Got a replacement rim (stock Carrera Lightweight), remounted tire, and still getting vibration up front, particularly at high speed.
Going to get that wheel/tire assembly road force balanced/checked next week, but for now am checking hub runout. Dial indicator is showing radial deviation of 0.003" (0.0762mm) on the hub's top surface, and 0.001" lateral deviation at the edge of the front side surface (stud side). I have no idea what the specs are for those, or if it's even possible to bend a hub in a way that would result in radial deviation.
Is this the right way to track down the vibration source? I tried alternately swapping both front wheels with the spare, and that did not eliminate the vibration (or even change it much), so I'm thinking the tire isn't the culprit here - again, getting that checked via RF balancer next week.
Just wondering whether anyone here has any other ideas about what I should be checking to track down the vibration.
Thanks for any input/ideas.
Tom
Have you checked/replaced the control arm link and control arm?(coffin arm)
If it were me, I'd replace both.
Any hit that could deform the wheel could likely crack or bend the control arms.
Also check your tie rods.
I'd also pull the strut and check that it isn't damaged.
Did you have the car aligned afterwards?
If toe is out it can cause wandering and vibrations.
I just reread your post.
I would start by replacing the tire.
It was likely damaged, but might not be visible.
A damaged belt could easily cause a vibration.
Thanks. I haven't checked control arms, links, or struts - not sure what I'm looking for there. I was going to road force balance the tire before I replace it - would that not identify any tire irregularities? (It's a pretty new tire - trying not to start replacing stuff without first confirming it's bad).
Plus one on what squirrel said, most likely damaged tire. If you search my posts, you'll see something similar just happened to me 2 months ago, took out a front and rear rim, tires were replaced but still weren't flat.
Probably the tire. They can get internal damage from impact. You could try switching the tires left to right to see if the vibration moves.
Anyway, if the hit really was severe, the whole corner should be inspected. Control arms could be cracked or bent, tie rods could be cracked or bent, ball joints could be bent or damaged, strut could be damaged, etc. Inspect cast AL upright for cracks, etc. Hub could be damaged - essentially the entire corner should be inspected.
In motorsports if there is any contact, that entire corner is typically replaced.
Car needs to go on a frame rack and get measured.
You can get a lot of tweak in a car with that kind of hit.
your fender should really be removed and the structure inspected.
And for a car that "can" exceed 150MPH,, I'd never trust any of the
suspension on the corner that took the hit.
And driving on a tire that came off a destroyed wheel,, that's just crazy..
OK. I've now replaced both front rims- the one on driver's side was also dinged, even though that side did not take the pot hole hit! My wheel/tire guy said due to the offset of the hub on the rim there is a lot of rim hanging out inboard that is susceptible to getting bent by even a slight bump due to the long lever arm there.
He mounted the old tire on the the new (to me) rim and did a road force balance on it. The resulting numbers came up very good, and he said there is no indication of any kind of internal tire damage (on either side).
Still getting fairly mild rotational vibration, noticeable at speeds above 40-45 mph.
I'm now wondering if it's a bent spindle? I see used ones are for sale on various sites - got me wondering why people would sell them; and who would buy them; and why. Anyone know about that?
Thanks.
I would say check the wheel bearings before thinking a hub is bent.
Also, are you absolutely sure one of the rear wheels isn't the problem? Have the rear wheels Hunter Road Force balanced and you'll know for sure. Cheap/easy troubleshooting.
Just pulled rear off - yep, it's bent.
. Rear wheels seem to harder to source on ebay, and a lot more expensive than the fronts. Off to the wheel guy with this one - see if he can straighten it out.
It really really needs to go on a good rack, and get measured, and all the links checked..
My wifes 330 XI took a similar hit,, its was north of 14K to repair all the bent parts and you couldn't tell
it had hit anything.. Ended up getting new axles on all 4 corners, new suspension in the front, and the right rear.
A BUNCH of under car parts that just added up like crazy.. Heck the aero tray under the front that's FRP was
500 bucks with all the aspecial fasteners that went with the old one.
The sway bar did most of the front non suspension damage..
The body was fine,, but all those rod ends and stuff OUCH..
Ours got mostly paid for by the state since they had been out to fix the loose manhole cover
4 times and it still kept coming up.
