Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I also had a coolant smell (almost sweet) which turned out to be a faulty coolant tank and was replaced by the dealer.

I went straight to the dealer and they replaced the air flow sensor.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I am looking for some help in identifying a smell. I purchase an 02 coupe approximately one month ago. During the certification process, the dealer installed a new clutch and replaced the RMS. The car had approximately 14,000 miles. I currently have just over 16,000 miles. There are no drops of oil noted. The level measurement before i start the ignition is always up to the top line. The car drives well, shifts well, and has no obvious abnormal sounds or anything that leads me to beleive anything is wrong. When i shut the car down, i notice a smell coming from the back of the car. It seems to come out from the rear tire well. It is not present with the engine running. It does not have the typical oil smell, and does not smell like burnt clutch or brakes. I am i correct in assuming that this is just new clutch smells? How long should this stay? Is there anything else i should consider or check with regards to fluid levels? Does this warrant a trip to the dealer, and if so, how quickly should i get it checked out?
Thanks,
Jeff
Most likely what your smelling; is a coating that they spray on the underside of the motor that they use for shipping from Germany. Makes kind of a funny burning rubber smell.
I went through the exact same thing when I bought my used Porsche a couple months ago. Like you, I also had the clutch replaced. There were all sorts of smells I was not used to The clutch is the worst and unmistakable, and you smell that when you are moving or after a botched hill start in Montreal, in your one day old car!
I also had a coolant smell (almost sweet) which turned out to be a faulty coolant tank and was replaced by the dealer. (Tank is just above the rear right wheel and it was dripping onto the exhaust. Apart from that, the dealer assured me that the rest of the "smells" are normal. Regardless, its pretty easy to check the oil and coolant levels in the back.
However, during this past weekend, I took a short drive to SC from NY and upon arrival, the CEL came on. I went straight to the dealer and they replaced the air flow sensor. Now it might just be a bit of a placebo effect, but I swear some of the smells have gone away. Not sure why this would generate a smell.
If it persists and it bothers you, take it to the dealer.
