Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I can get a D.E.C cat installed for $1760 and new sensors installed for $640.
Leading evidence: 'Install $1760 and new sensors installed' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check requirements' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

When I reset the code the check engine light does not illuminate for about 500 miles and then it is on again.

I live in a state were there is no emissions check requirements but would like to keep car as original as possible.

It isn't about resetting codes and shutting off the CEL, it is about using the code reader to diagnose the failure so it can be fixed to eliminate the root cause of the failure.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I have a check engine light with a O2 sensor code on the left bank. The O2 sensors are Bosch parts but the cats are Magnaflow after market. When I reset the code the check engine light does not illuminate for about 500 miles and then it is on again. Have done this twice. I live in a state were there is no emissions check requirements but would like to keep car as original as possible. I can get a D.E.C cat installed for $1760 and new sensors installed for $640. I can get one O2 sensor extension installed for $245. This may or may not eliminate the error code, but by fooling the computer what are the other ramifications? Will this cause the computer to sense a lean mixture and increase the fuel flow?
Is this a recent installation? What's the code?
How many miles, how old are the sensors? CATS 200cell?
You're getting gauged on pricing...all that is easy DIY stuff.
Yea, cause that's the emissions cycle for the car. Until you fix the problem, the CEL will re-illuminate over and over and over and over and over... (coughs) you get the point.
Then remove all that aftermarket exhaust crap and put OEM back on it and you'll notice the car is happy again.
You need to troubleshoot the issue, not throw new cats or sensors at it. Step 1 is pulling the codes, ideally with a Porsche specific code reader, but minimally an OBD II code reader. You could have upstream issues (like vacuum leaks) that manifest as an OBD code for the O2 sensors. I'm chasing one like this on my '00 right now.
I have driven 100 miles and no check engine light. I am going to wait until it illuminates again. All O2 sensors replaced 8000 miles ago with OEM parts. I can then get error codes. Cars runs great. Probably could just reset the codes. Anyone recommend a tester that resets codes. I am retired and drive about 3500 miles per year.
We can all stand behind or keyboard all day long and fire the parts cannon. But there are several of us on this forum who actually wrench for a living and a few that dont do it for a living but really know their stuff. Ahsai for example if one of the best in this forum for technical and electrical diag help. The best plan of attack is to report the codes it has stored. Then proceed. Guessing only cost more in the end.
It isn't about resetting codes and shutting off the CEL, it is about using the code reader to diagnose the failure so it can be fixed to eliminate the root cause of the failure.
Resetting codes just masks the condition.
Almost any cheap OBD II reader will reset emissions codes.
