Also, the distance from pit in to paddock can change the MPG, as you don't use WOT in the paddock or pit in/out.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I ran an interesting experiment this weekend. I used the onboard computer to measure MPG on the track and on the drive home. The results really impressed me. I went through 2 tanks of gas on Sunday at the track and got 5.8 and 6.2 MPG [I measured each tank separately]. Then I put my street tires back on, refueled, and drove home. I got 27.2 MPG. It's an 8 year old car (going on 9) that performs awesome on the track and still gets mileage as good as (or better than) a load of brand new cars. In fact, my wife's 2007 335i gets worse mileage in town and on the highway. Probably not earth shattering news, but it was pretty neat when the lightbulb went on -td

POST 2Original post

interesting - i found that i really sucked through the gas when autocrossing and was wondering what the numbers were As you said - amazing that the cars do so well with mpg on a daily basis

POST 3Original post

i got 22.5 driving to Michigan and back this past week at 85mph. Pretty good for a car with close to 121k miles on it.

POST 4Original post

I have realized these cars can go forever on a tank if you pace yourself out there (I've averaged near 30mpg on some highway days), but they can really suck you dry when you lay it on heavy (around town I am sub 10 all the time)

POST 5Original post

At VIR a few weeks back, I was getting roughly 8.4mpg via the OBC - and on the trip home from VIR, about 26mpg. Either my engine is more efficient on the track, or you're a 25% better track driver (6mpg vs. my 8mpg)

POST 6Original post

High seed track? I got about 8mpg at Mid Ohio the one time I checked. It's funny that both my "performance" cars get better highway mileage than my daily driver does. Andy

I do tend to push the gas pedal all the way down - ALOT. Try that. Seriously though, the length of the track can affect the MPG as longer out/in laps artificially boost the MPG. Also, the distance from pit in to paddock can change the MPG, as you don't use WOT in the paddock or pit in/out. There could also be a host of car related issues that affect gas mileage. Perhaps the ECU has simply adapted to my airflow and pushes more gas. -td

POST 8Original post

get about 6-7 mpg at Laguna and about the same at Sears, but 4-6 at Thunderhill. I forget what I get at Willow Springs and Buttonwillow (maybe 5 at BW). Get about 30mpg on the way to the track.

POST 9Original post

You're clearly driving too slowly on the way to and from the track.

POST 10Original post

Quotes source post: 6055656

Most likely due to the better aerodynamics of the "performance" cars. What is your daily driver?

POST 11Original post

Same here. 04 B4 S4 Avant ~21mpg combined daily. I get ~23mpg just around town in the C4S
