The one in my race car doesn't have the set screw and is worn to the point that it slides up and down.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I know a lot of you have replaced your old shift ***** with newer ones. The one in my race car doesn't have the set screw and is worn to the point that it slides up and down. Does anyone have an old one that they would like to get rid of for a reasonable price. I don't care what condition it's in. I'm going to cut the leather off anyway. I just need it to stay put. Thanks, Jim

POST 2Original post

Ya know if you just asked me I'm sure it could be improved or fixed for next to nothing... -BG

POST 3Original post

Jim, I have a thowaway one you could have for $50 plus shipping.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Brian, I didn't think of it until I was heading down into turn 10a at the Road Atlanta club race where you do a 5 to 4, 4 to 3, 3 to 2 down shift and somewhere in the middle the **** came off in my hand. I haven't looked real close to see what could be done with the one I have. I was hoping to find one with a set screw. Chris, Why doesn't paying $50 for a "throwaway" sound like that good of a deal to me?

POST 5Original post

Keep me posted, I might be able to have the leather finished sewn at the bottom edge as well. BG

POST 6Original post

I will be replacing the stock shift **** on my 2002 996 c2 in about a week. I will make you a good deal on the old ****.

POST 7Original post

Have to agree on that one as well. When I upgraded mine I sold the old one in the car on eBay for less than $50. There just isn't a market for them like the upgraded shifters. If I still had mine I would have just donated it to the "cause".

POST 8Original post

JimB My shifter is fine...The throwaway remark was that you were going to cut it up anyway. I recently bought a turbo shifter and have this one boxed away. If you can get one that works for your needs...great. Mine's 50 bucks.
