My hard plastic is easier to clean (i can be aggtressive with it compared to leather).

I am very careful, but it is virtually impossible to prevent if you use the car.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I have a MY99 and I kind of like the interior. The grey textured finish on the rear center console, vents, ect does not really bother me thet much. I have just heard so many people mention not to buy a MY 99 because of the interior and that seems ludacris. There are even several good reasons to buy a MY 99 if you can get over the interior. Those being, lower prices right now, TC/limited slip option and cable actuated throttle. I just seems the MY99 gets a bad rap on this and other forums unduly and I wanted to put my $.02 in.
I like mine. I could never figure what all the complaining was about. People who get in my car just rave about how nice it is. Maybe we are all just hics up here in Minnesota. Freezing rain today on top of the new snow yuk!
I'm with you guys on the interior. To my eye, it's beautiful and sumptuous--especially the savanah beige strikes me as such. Of course, as mentioned by someone else, perhaps I'm not used to much either...my two previous 911's had the same 30-year old design vinyl-clad interior that was downright cheap in feel and execution. Even the 993 has that interior. At least with the 996 there is a new design and overall feel of luxury and leather. For one, it's nice to not think you are going to break the door handle every time you open the door; remember those plastic ones on the previous models?
As for MY 99, I'm a big fan of the first model years: the design is purer and I have had much luck in the past with them. I like to think the factory is being extra careful with build quality every time they come out with a new model. That, of course, may just be some fantasy, but it's mine and I like it.

i have no beef with my interior at all.
personally i'm kind of glad that it doesn't have leather everywhere because i would scratch it to hell very quickly.
which grey crap? (i think the previous owner had his interior all black so i'm not familiar with the grey)
side note..the only leather i seem 2 have is on the door armrests, door handles and oddments box (the glovebox in the center consol that keeps braking)
the parts that are gray- that wierd cheap looking speckled gray- defroster vents, alarm cover, side vents, 3 dash strips, center console, rosette, hazard surround, horseshoe, guage surround, dash radio surround. side mirror covers. I have swapped them out to the regular 00 black. I have the 3 dash stips, center console, rossett, hazard painted exterior color. I have carbon radio surround, horseshoe. I painted the overhead console, map pocket trim, and guage surround artic.
I didn't like it, I thought it looked cheap like the Cadillacs I've seen. But other than the headlights, I don't have a problem with the rest of the car.....and it is a good value at $35k and below.
MY 2000 has the soft touch center console that came with full leather option. It is scratched up, as is the leather dash in a few places. I am very careful, but it is virtually impossible to prevent if you use the car. I have a new console and associated parts though and will replace it eventually. I had a 97 Boxster that had 105k on it when sold and the gray plastic didn't have a mark. I like the 2000 interior better, but there are always compromises.
The only thing I dont like about the 996 is the interior. I love the aircooled interiors since it feels more like a sportscar(less plastic). The 996 interiors are also cheap looking, IMHO.
^ i'll have 2 disagree with you on that one. yes the old aircooled interiors might have been good...for their time..but the interior on the 996 has more flowing curves and whatnot...IMHO makes the 993's interior just look too dated.
You almost could convince yourself that you were sitting in an old VW Beetle if you did not see the outside. For a car that cost what those cars did new, that interior was a joke! IMHO, Porsche should still lure one of Audi's interior guys over to show them how a proper interior is done.
^ if u want a real interior...u gotta go talk 2 the italians...or the swedes (koeniggessegg...did i spell it rite?)
hell even ferrari race cars have alcantra wrapped dashes and stuff.
I love the interior of my 99 also. I always thought it was arranged with the sports car driver in mind. Simple, elegant and straight forward. I also agree with the comments about not having full leather. After 6 years it would be cracked and damaged in so many places. My hard plastic is easier to clean (i can be aggtressive with it compared to leather).

Thanks Toddel, did you delete your console or is that how 99s are? Other than that it looks like the only difference is the material. Plastic instead of leather. It looks ok to me.
My 99 has the full leather. I believe everything is covered in leather; dash, instrument pod, doors, radio surround, rear seats, rear sides. The parts that are not leather include the visors and shifter console. I would like the visors in leather, but like the console as is. With respect to wear, I have about 42k on the car and the only visible signs of wear are some marks on the non-leather shift console, the leather still looks new. I use the Zanio conditioner on it. I looked at some 99's without the full leather and thought the dash, instrument pod and door panels looked kind of cheap in the plastic. My interior is all black.
