Assuming a non-X51 car makes 260hp stock (as adjusted from 320...assuming that adjustment is correct), that suggests mine is making about 282hp now.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

This wonderful 996 Carrera X-51 came in to the shop today to complete the installation of a full Fabspeed Performance Package. This car is now equipped with the following Fabspeed performance products: • Fabspeed Motorsport Maxflo Performance Exhaust w/ Deluxe Quad-Style Tips • Fabspeed Motorsport Sport Headers • Fabspeed Motorsport Sportcat X-Pipe w/ 200-cell HJS Sport Catalytic Converters • Fabspeed Motorsport Carbon Fiber Competition Intake System • EVOMSit ECU Tune After the install was complete, the car was dyno tested and put out 315 horsepower at the wheels, which makes for a great sounding and running 996!

POST 2Original post

This looks to be a 40th AE which with the X51 is rated at 345hp, what was it pre upgrades?

POST 3Original post

It's a sweet setup, but a "before" pull would sure be helpful when evaluating such a pricey package.

POST 4Original post

I wanna see a factory 40AE put down 262whp on a dyno. 262.5 * 1.20 = 315HP, just to be clear that claiming 20% gains over factory setup means the factory setup makes 262 horsepower, which is maybe believable for WHP of a stock 3.4L, but I don't believe it for a stock x51.

POST 6Original post

Quotes source post: 11450609

+1. This is useless data without a benchmark "before" run.

POST 8Original post

I've seen about 40 factory X51 3.6 cars for IMSR processes, each is dynoed post- process. They average 289-302 RWHP on my dynojet in stock form.

POST 9Original post

i have run my 40th AE against more than one 3.4 and or non x51 3.6 and in every instance and along till let up it was not even close. I have been meaning to add 200 cel cats to mine so, I would love to see a before and compare to that after especially on a car with only 28k miles on it should pull very sting stock.

POST 10Original post

If your AE with 345HP didn't mop the floor with a 3.4 rated at 296HP, I wouldn't blame the car.

POST 11Original post

From personal experience with issues installing these systems and having to service them after the sale make sure you do your research before buying FabSpeed products. There product and their after-sales leave alot to be desired. Mark

POST 12Original post

Stock X51 should hover around 300hp https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...-x51-dyno.html

I have this Fabspeed on my 996 and think it's great. What maintenance are you referring to?

POST 14Original post

I notice the dyno test shut down at 6800rpm while still on the climb. Isn't redline 7200 on the 40th x51? Paul

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I did not run a pre-dyno due to time constraints with the customer who came from NY for the install. I was not posting the graph as a basis for comparison, I just thought that it was a nice piece to see a well running 996. The graph posted above by Halik was on an engine with 1,500 miles and the graph was STD smoothed FWIW. Wish I had more time so that I could have run a pre dyno, even at that I had to do the post dyno on a different day when the customer came back for the intake. Evan

POST 16Original post

I guess when you claim that it is a 20 %increase over the X51, people will ask about the baseline. I think that is a fair question. 300 hp just seems low for the X51. My bone stock 3.4 dyno was 287 on a rated 296. Granted, only one data point, but still seems low. The fabspeed setup sure looks sweet though!

POST 17Original post

When you have an engine dyno and a chassis dyno one room apart from each other in the lab its really easy to test the engine at the flywheel, then test the engine in the car only a few hours later. Doing this reveals the true drivetrain losses that these cars have. That removes all the guesswork and argument.

POST 18Original post

Quotes source post: 11453542

Care to share your general observations between flywheel hp and wheel hp drivetrain losses for both 2wd and 4wd for the 996 platform? People always assume 15-25% as a general rule of thumb but I know it can vary between car make/models.

POST 19Original post

Quotes source post: 11453569

Doing so would only create controversy. Why? Because it would completely defy what everyone has ever read on the topic.

POST 20Original post

Quotes source post: 11453642

I'm only asking if you would share your numbers on what you record on the engine dyno and the roller dyno. Numbers are numbers. Not too much controversy unless you're worried about people questioning testing setup, equipment, dyno settings, etc. "completely defy"? Are we talking Ancient Aliens $hit here?

POST 25Original post

So are we saying a std X51 is around 300 and the Fabspeed kitted car came in at 315?, if so thats a big spend for 15hp

POST 26Original post

My non-X51 2004 C4S has a - Sharkwerks Tune - Fabspeed Exhaust - EvoMS headers and - EvoMS intake and, the set-up supposedly puts out an extra 22hp/18tq over stock. I don't have the dyno sheet for it but it yields similar power improvements to the X-51 power kit. Assuming a non-X51 car makes 260hp stock (as adjusted from 320...assuming that adjustment is correct), that suggests mine is making about 282hp now. My car also doesn't have the benefit of the sport cats in the package described but the dyno suggests that the upgrade nets about a 31hp advantage over the benefits of the X-51. I'm not in a position to know one way or another. Is it fair to ask how much additional hp high flow cats typically yield over stock? -Eric

POST 27Original post

The message I always get from reading about performance gain products with the 996 engine is that the factory has already squeezed out all that is available. From that point on, a single HP will cost a few hundred on up to $800 each. Can a driver really feel a 10HP gain on a 300HP+ engine? Look at all the changes Porsche did for the total X51 package. Heads, pistons, exhaust, intake, remapping, all that for a gain of 20HP. A huge expense indicating its not easy or cheap. Paul

POST 30Original post

All kidding aside, just buy JR's book and you get it all! Rumor is the book comes with a free sample of JG! Paul is exactly right. Just think about the Ford or GM engine you could build for what it takes to get a few more HP out of the M96 platform. Its really pathetic.

POST 31Original post

Honestly, if I were to develop the need for another 20HP it would make sense to sell the 40th for $30-35k and take the HP money, say $15k and buy a GT3 Paul
