Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I bought my 996 with these rims already installed. (not sure of the brand) Anyway, I already had a steering wheel that I bought for a different project, (ended up going with a different wheel) and oddly enough the wheel basically matches the rims. This is a 'forever sharp half wrap leather wheel' I think I can put the little emblem that comes on a keychain on the horn button. I already have the wheel, so I am going to order a hub adaptor to put it in the 996. The styling is modern, but since I plan to modernize the interior it might work out design wise. Yeah, I know it isn't a classic design, but I am going to see how it ends up. Yes I know I won't have an airbag.

That looks like it will be nice. Full view pics as you go

Wheel removal. Went quite easy, unbolt and pull off. Horn wires long enough, NRG short hub adaptor. love the aluminum grippy wheel. It is 2 piece, and the leather top portion would be really easy to re-wrap if the leather ever wears out. 6 bolt to 5 bolt adaptor (I may add an additional spacer, as the wheel is not quite dished enough. All bolted up. Now to get a Porsche crest for the wheel. Install went well, I need to lower my seating position a little bit as the wheel is covering the top of the gauges, but I am 6'4". so any smaller wheel is going to give me that problem. I ordered a crest which I will install on the horn button when it comes in. Overall, I am happy with it. Sure does modernize the interior.

POST 4Original post

I went from a stock 4-spoke to a Raid/FVD 340mm airbag wheel, to a Momo Mod O7, then back to 4-spoke, then back to the Raid/FVD. I did this all in an exercise to change it up while being different from just getting the three spoke wheel like everyone else. I never really was satisfied with any of them. A few months ago I just gave in and bought a three spoke wheel and I love it. Sometimes theres a good reason why a lot of people do a certain thing. I went through similar experience with my shift **** setups. Ive had three different ones and I reinstalled a stock **** and it just feels and looks better than any of the other ones.

I can appreciate that, bouncing back and forth and then ending up where we started is often how it goes. I had this wheel already, so I figured I would try it out. I didn't mind the stock 4 spoke wheel, but if I am going to go back to it, I will need to get it recovered. I am going to be slowly switching the interior from Savannah to black over time. I plan to recover the dash in black automotive leather, and the more of this I do, the better this new wheel will look in there. I expect adding the crest will be just that little extra that makes it perfect.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Took a crest off of those leather keychain fobs, cut around the emblem, and as you can see, they are attached with brass rivets. Pulled it off, and then drilled my horn button to match. I think it turned out pretty well. Pardon the not very well lit night shot, but yeah I like how it turned out.
