Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

So I started driving around So Cal and ran into this car about 90 miles from where I live.
Leading evidence: 'Run into this car about 90 miles' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'quarter or something jammed)' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace seal' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I'm betting that they got a higher offer and ran with it.

Some might tell you to do the clutch when they replace the seal?
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Well, looks like I will be getting a 02 C4S.
Was going to get a TT but the finances worked better on this. Maybe a TT next year
02 C4S
38k miles
Heated seats
Bose
Small Aluminum
$$40k
Needs RMS and a few other things (thus negotiated the price). The RMS is fixable for 850.00 so no biggie per si.
I think 40k is a great deal.
Mod list is ready
Front TA Bumper
GT2 (Misha) Spoiler
Suspension
SSK
Sport Seats
Other little thingies
Will be putting my SSR GT3 wheels on it.
Kind of a rebirth of my Red one. In Black
Hi Tim,
That a fairly similar deal to what I got last month....a fantastic deal!!!! What are the other "small" things?? If they are truly small, then you have scored big time. Some might tell you to do the clutch when they replace the seal? Not sure tho...still fairly new with the 996.
Best of luck,
J
Actually the clutch was done 10k ago with the other RMS. I would bet when we see it it is an old seal or installed wrong.
Some cosmetic issues
Dented exhaust
The drivers seat binds when going back (I suspect a quarter or something jammed)
Needs tires and brakes but I am putting my 19's on and already have dustless pads.
Beverly Hills did a fine PPI but DAMN the prices for stuff is silly. $495 for an alignment!? 1800+ for a RMS. Helped me in negotiation but DAMN
Choi,
Maybe, but I like the look on my Red one. If a set comes up for a fair price I might. As you are finding in your search they ask stupid $$$ for them.
Zoo,
Yup, I will bore your pants off with pictures
DJ
That was my guess. I could not find another 02 and the 03's were 49k and up.
I found this one due to a typo in my web search. To many things fell into place. Just keeping my fingers crossed that all falls into place with papers etc. Have to send everything off to finalize the deal tomorrow. PPI and Deposit are done just never know..........
Wow that is a great deal. I looked for a C4s for months and couldnt find one at that price. I'm really surprised that that car has California plates on it too considering the prices on all porsches in Cali are ridiculous. I just paid almost the same for an 02 C2 Cab with a lot of options with 60k miles...wanna trade?
Car's beautiful in black! You've got the clear corners - now ditch the front plate and get some bumper plugs!! Yeah, I know - it's illegal in Colorado. One of the reasons to move to PA!! Enjoy your C4S!
Phil
Well, they sold it out from under me.
Now I am out the PPI.
Dealers are Snakes.
I had even wanted to put down a deposit but they said doing the PPI was enough.
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr
If the PPI was done thru an independant source, there will be no grounds for a dispute. Certainly wouldn't be the fault of the PPI shop.....they did what they were paid for. The only recourse would be suing the dealer for that cost....which you should be able to recover based upon your facts.
However, the time involved and aggravation will most likely not make it worth while. I would ask the dealer to refund what your out of pocket was....it's the least they can do to regain your confidence to some extent.
Best,
J
Blessing in disguise.......now you can seek out a Turbo.
I was stunned you were considering going from the fastest 993 made to the slowest 996........it just didn't make sense
Sorry to see that the deal didn't happen. 40k was a steal for that car! I paid a heck of a lot more for mine, though mine is CPO has brand new tires and had the 15k service done.
I hear you on the Bimmer. While I have a regular 3 series, I have NOT driven it once since I got the 996. I should get out and start it up so the battery doesn't kerplunk on me. It goes back in September to the leasing company.....wish it were sooner.
My kids LOVE plopping in the back of my p-cars....I feel much more comfortable with them in the 996 with shoulder restraints than I do in the '85 Targa.
I have had Bimmers since '99.....I think I'm done with them for a while. There really is no substitute.

...and probably the reason it was sold out from under Tim --
Sorry to hear this Tim - anytime a dealer doesnt want a deposit, it only means they are seeking a higher sale price.
I have bought many cars from private parties who make deals on handshakes but I always insist on leaving a deposit, getting a receipt that outlines the payment total, terms etc. that outlines the balance of the transaction.
Shame on that dealer, whoever it is..
I bought mine in late Feb of this year. I had been looking for awhile and just decided to take a day off work and BUY A CAR! So I started driving around So Cal and ran into this car about 90 miles from where I live. Was the only C4S on the lot and really looked nice. Of course no CPO and no existing warranty also high 50K miles but super clean. Seemed to have a very heavy clutch and of course went out 3 weeks later. All-in-all, I built service and clutch into the 51.5K price and walked away with a sweet ride. I don't mind high miles especially in LA because everything is so far away. I figure the guy drove it 50 miles each way to work (very common here) and never bent the car in any way. I immediately put X-73 on it and ordered new wheels and tires - BINGO! an instant success. Now thinking about selling it and moving to a 997.................?
