Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Found the PSE on ebay, barely used ( the cans were hardly tarnished) for $530.00 plus shipping.
Leading evidence: 'Use ( the cans were hardly tarnished)' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'extra 10-15 minutes work' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace brackets at some time' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I used Orient Express' instructions and the TSB's.

Last but not least, take off the tires, bumper and heat shields, probably an extra 10-15 minutes work, but it makes it so much easier.

May replace the brackets at some time, but they are $93+ @.

I ended up drilliong out the studs and using bolts to mount them.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Crude, but it worked and the cans were back on the next day.
Finally complete the install of my PSE two days ago and I am really enjoying it. Put the new cans on a week or so ago, but had not completed the electrics until Sunday. I am really enjoying them but they are significantly louder than I thought they would be in the sport mode, and I like being able to switch to the quiet mode. In the sport mode, if you get on the car, everyone within a few block is going to hear it.
Also, to avoid the automatic switch to quiet mode at 45+ I just did not make the connection on the pink grey wire at the relay carrier. No need to clip any wire or modify the relay. The trickiest part of the install, other than alot of rusty bolts from 6 years of driving) was figuring out how to mount the vacumn tank. All the pictures of the installs and the TSB's may it look like the mount is right by the brackets for the battery power connections. It is actually a few inches back. Took me an hour or so to figure that one out.
I also think I got one of the best deals I have heard of. Found the PSE on ebay, barely used ( the cans were hardly tarnished) for $530.00 plus shipping. They were the new style, larger diameter by-pass style, came with the extension pipes for the newer style rear end, the metallic hoses, plastic hoses, fitting, vacumn tank, hardware etc. and the switch that is in the engine compartment. Sold the extension pipes for $30.00 to someone who needed them for an 02+ car, so the net price was $500.00. Found a member here who had the electrics from his PSE that he did not want, including everything from the cans forward, and bought them for $125.00 (I have extras pieces, ie. vacumn tank, hoses, engine compartment switch, etc. if anyone needs them PM me). Finally got the tip switch from Sunset for about $25.00. So for about $650.00 I have a PSE. Not too bad.
That is an awesome price!
So it sounds like it wasn't that hard to install the electronics and vacuum hoses. Which directions did you use to install the PSE?
I used Orient Express' instructions and the TSB's. The only things that slowed me down was the rust on the bolts and the location of the mount for the vacumn tank. The nuts on the brackets are hard to get at and I acually ended up cutting a couple of the nuts off on the muffler mount brackets with a dremel tool, and one of the studs broke off. The studs on the ones I cut off were also damamged. Unfortunately the mounting brackets I got with the PSE were for the newer cars (they changed in 02), so I needed to reused my old ones or order new ones. Could not find them in stock anywhere, and Sunset said they had to come from Germany, so 2-3 weeks or more. I ended up drilliong out the studs and using bolts to mount them. Crude, but it worked and the cans were back on the next day. May replace the brackets at some time, but they are $93+ @.
Also, remember that the bolt to remove for mounting the vacumn tank is on the fuel accumulator, which is to the right and a couple of inches forward of the mounting point for the switch bracket. Much easier to do with the aircleaner box removed. Last but not least, take off the tires, bumper and heat shields, probably an extra 10-15 minutes work, but it makes it so much easier. Orient Just made another post here that clarified some of the work and what some of the parts in the PSE kit are.
