Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.
Discussions that report identifying a cause

Leading evidence: 'cost' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'cost' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Install grill' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I will say one thing, Ruf uses mesh in their RG cars so not sure why.

I remember using some back to black on the plastic.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Im thinking of installing a front grill on my 996 cab.
Wondering if anyone had any input?
Zunsport makes ones that look nice. Radiatorgrillstore looks easy to install and are relatively inexpensive.
Any thoughts?
Thanks
The previous owner of my car installed grill that he sourced from Home Depot. I was shocked when he told me, as it looks great abs works well. Ill take a pic.
I was going to order from the grillstore but decided to check out Lowes first. I found a gutter grill that looks pretty close for ~$5. I did need to take off the bumper to install them, drilling the insert and using zip ties. I only had time to do the lowers because we were going on a trip, but that was a year ago and the radiators are still clean so it seems the bottoms suck up most of the crap. I'm ok leaving it as is for now.
I have a used set of 996.2 grills for sale in the Marketplace.
The two outer grills came from Radiatorgrillstore.com.
But the middle grill came from Home Depot.
The material matches perfectly.
You guys have any thoughts on why Porsche didn't install screens from the factory ? I doubt it was the cost . Did they see something during design ? Or in wind tunnel testing ? Just curious if anyone knows .
IMHO, it had to do with the engineering philosophy at the time in regards to airflow and cooling of the engine. Restricting or diffusing airflow through the radiators was a cardinal sin. From what I read, they were always looks for better ways to improve cooling and airflow. One example was venting through the fender well housing. However, as Porsche increased the size of the air ducts and inlets (e.g. GTRS), low resistance grilles were added to the high-end GT cars. But if I'm not mistaken, the new 992 GTRS has a totally different system of piping air through the rads.
Even with adding front grilles to your 996, you'll still get debris packed in the back corner of your ducts. Adding these grilles comes with a negative effect to cooling the engine. But if you like'm, go for it.
I don't think for the average street driving 996 the grills have any effect on cooling. I live in south Texas and it's my daily driver, and spends at least 10 mins on the way home creeping in traffic, never had a problem with cooling. Granted I do have a tip so I have the third radiator...

This is what I don't get. What's thought to be caught besides maybe a giant maple leaf if you're Canadian during fall season, but other than that, anything that collects is small debris that'd make it's way through mesh anyways. Why add a layer that'd disrupt air flow for zero gain? Looks better without any mesh too, IMO.
Did anyone spray their inserts as part of this process?
Yes this is Vu from PCA removing the inserts from a 986 but you know which part Im talking about
I used a gutter grill from Lowe's. I think it was around 5 bucks. I removed the bumper, cut the grill a little oversize and made some tabs from the grill itself, tucked them in ,no zip ties, the pressure from the bumper cover holds it in place.
No , I did not paint. I remember using some back to black on the plastic. I forgot to mention, don't forget about cutting a hole for the temperature thingy.

I bought some grille material from this place:
Perforated Hexagon XXL Aluminum Grill Mesh Sheets
. They have an assortment of configurations and give the percentage of air flow, which is nice. The only complaint I have is that the powder coating started flaking off on mine after a couple of years. Here's from when I was doing my bumper install and making my grilles;
