Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

13 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My 996 c2 has had several brands of tires on my 18 turbo twist wheels Last week a put on 264/35 rear 225/40 front Mitcelin Sport and the difference is absolutely Noticeable High speed straight and quit Low speed corners grip like attached to rails This was a Mod which I had not Expected

POST 2Original post

I have a 99 C2 and experienced exactly the same after I switched to Michelin PS2 tires. Previously I had Pirrellis (N) and also Toyo's. The Michelins are much quieter and have way more grip when cornering but the biggest difference comparing to my previous tires is that the car feels easier and more relaxed when driving in a straight line.

POST 3Original post

I have no experience with the new versions, but I was not a fan of the PS2's at all on my E46 M3. They had ok grip, were ok in the rain, but were nice and quiet and comfortable tires. Reminded me of driving on all seasons with slightly more grip. I've always been more of a fan of tires on the more dedicated end of the Summer range, Dunlop Direzza Star Specs, ZII's, RE11's etc... but some people can't live with the extra road noise, and sometimes slight harshness associated. Glad you saw such great results... tires are the best thing to spend good $ on to change the overall feel, and performance of your car.

POST 4Original post

Good to know... I'm about to have my rear tires changed (295/30 18") and was in deed looking at the PS2's as the price seems ok'ish at around CHF 900 or USD 960 for a set of 2...

POST 5Original post

Look Zanz, next time buy the real "Michelin" tires not those knock off similar spelled brands. Just Kidding. (I have to look that spelling up everytime) Great tires!

POST 6Original post

Absolutely love the PS2s on this car. You can not compare tires with totally different front & rear aspects, sizes and profiles has been my experience. I only have 2k on mine, but after almost ayear, they are by far the best tire I have driven on, for the exact same "feel" that Zanzibar said. My brother had PSs on his '11 M3 and they were not the same in any way. He put on PSSs and really likes them .

That's where many of us go wrong ( just changing rears) The front/ rear tire balance can go off easily , even with the same exact tire brand replaced The fronts will no older and will have experienced many hot to Cold cycles and will not be as good Check your local PCA newsletter For a expert high performance Tire shop and buy a full set

Same thing here, hated them on the E46 m3 as well. They are great at nothing, tramline and cost an arm and leg. I'm much happier with Ventus V12s for daily driving. Also Star Specs on the m3 were the bomb.

POST 9Original post

265 rears? That is the winter tire size. The OEM fitment is 285/30-18

POST 10Original post

Quotes source post: 10685218

I got new front tires when I bought the car (Jan 13) and these are as-new as I have driven less than 5'000 km since I got the car. The seller said he expected the rears to have about 20K km left (so about 15K km as of today) which means changing them now will get the front and rears in "sync".

POST 12Original post

Quotes source post: 10685881

265's were the standard size from the factory on Mk I 996s with the 18" option. They didn't go to 285's until 2002

POST 13Original post

Quotes source post: 10685881

IIRC 265 was the stock sizing for mk1 cars. This is also what appears on the tire rack site for standard sizing.
