Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

13 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Today I found this car http://www.autotrader.com/dealers/id...ler_id=1365857 on the web and it seems really cheap for the year. It has 85k miles on it and is a second owner car, I'm told. The owner wants $30K USD for it. Given the miles is this fair? If it is indeed a "bargain", what should I be on the look out for?? Thanks in advance to any experts who can help!!

POST 2Original post

The milage is very high and I think it greatly decreases the value. The Kelly Blue book trade in value is $27K and private party value is $31K ( www.kbb.com ), so the price seems "normal" and not necessarily a great deal. On the other hand, if there are maintenance records and everything checks out, maybe that makes for a good deal on a great car.

POST 3Original post

pretty car--i see why you're tempted. ppi is a must. if it checks out offer $28k at most--it won't fetch more with such hi mileage. make sure it doesn't have an rms leak.

POST 5Original post

Interesting exhaust tips........ RMS is an oil leak - in simple terms between the transmission and engine

POST 6Original post

CAUTION: The Ad states the it's a 2000, however the orange tail light lenses indicate that it's an early production 1999. Mid-year 1999, Porsche changed the tail light spec to a clear lens tail light. I believe that Porsche actually shut down production in 1999 and re-tooled the assembly process (or something to that effect).

POST 7Original post

Just out of curiousity, why would you look at a car in the Eastern US if you live in Western Canada?

POST 8Original post

Tho there are some tell tale signs that makes it seem like a 99 (orange taillights, shelf below steering wheel), the VIN they have displayed is an MY 00 VIN. The 10th digit would be an X if it were a 99. Call a porsche dealer near there and ask them if they can do a PPI (Pre Purchase Inspection). Specifically ask them about the RMS (Rear Main Seal) which is very prone to leaking. Also, Carfax should have given you the service dates and service location where the car was worked on. Call that dealer up and talk to the service manager, ask about the car, if there are any outstanding TSB (Tech Serv. Bulletins) - aka recalls. After all that is said and done, if it checks out, get on a plane and test drive it. It may cost a little more up front, but will save major headaches down the line...

POST 9Original post

It does look like it could be a 2000, but with poorly swapped out light assembly -- amber taillights and mismatched side indicators (clear on driver side and amber on passenger side. Also, the 1999s have a four-spoke steering wheel. Perhaps the previous owner upgraded it aftermarket, but then the pics show side airbags with a silver-colored label unlike the 1999s as well. Hope this isn't an indication of the care of the car. Questionable exhaust tips too.

POST 10Original post

At the same time, you will notice that the cars might not be the same between the 1st picture and the rest. The first picture doesnt have the price on it but does have a sticker in the bottom right hand corner of the windscreen. All other pictures have the price on the top left but no sticker on the bottom right? Granted the price could have been added later but is the bottom right sticker the registration tag? Why remove that?

POST 11Original post

Ucube, Mine is 99 and has the same steering wheel, which was optional. However you are right that looking at two mismatched side maker makes me wonder if the current owner has been taken good care of this car..

POST 12Original post

Ah...my mistake as I didn't realize the 3-spoke steering wheel was a factory option on the '99. Looks like the previous owner went cheap on mine back then. I would've much preferred the more stylish 3-spoke.

POST 13Original post

get it! same looks as mine... (mine is a 99 though..) Waz
