Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

The "Solution" can't be used on the new short or long blocks from Porsche without splitting the case.
Leading evidence: 'Use on the new short or long blocks' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'impeller(plastic)' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Use engine market' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Probably an impeller(plastic) from the water pump broke off;blocked a passage and that was it.Temp didn't peg.We haven't taken the pump out yet.

Is there not a good used engine market for the 3.6?
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

2002 C4
Depressed writing this; but ny 2002 996.2 C4 Cab. Has a cracked #1 cylinder and
Maybe more?Compression is down in4 cylinders.I have decided to sell it as a roller.
A remanufactured long block plus parts and labor is 20 to 25k..not worth it.
Its a pristine well cared for car w 58k miles. Brakes, tires etc all recent. Also has factory hardtop(which I would sell separately).
So whats it worth as is?INDY wants it ;but I think hes too low on price.
Ouch! I'm so sorry for you man! I was expected to hear you were from a cold climate, but I see this is a California car? That is surprising for the condition of this car. Can you tell us a little about it's history? Has it always been a California car? Service?
Lots of dismantlers would buy it for the beautiful tan leather interior alone. Lots of great parts on this car. Still hate to see it sold off as a roller.
That interior is beautiful indeed, would love to swap mine out with that whole leather interior set. My car exterior color is same as well. As others have mentioned, try to find a low mileage 3.6 engine and get the swap done, I think it's worth it in your case because your California car looks so clean. Good-luck, cheers,
I would be patient and find a used engine. Ive seen some engines out there in the wild for cheap (like $3.5-$6k).
This is a Porsche 911, remember that. Even if you have to drop $8-$10k to get it back up and running, youre still driving a car that costs less as than any good new Honda, Toyota, Ford, Chevy, etc.
Also, Everything is expensive these days. Need a new roof or a new driveway? Five figures. You can almost buy a used 996 engine for the price of two or three new iPhones.
I agree 100%, I just recently picked up a 101k mile engine pulled from a running car for $2500 that is to have an LS3 engine and extensive body transformation on it. So there are engines available for any budget if you are patient and look for it. If money is no object and you are just "done" with it, then price it cheap, let someone else fit there budget and move on with something else.
