Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Here is the situation; 2002 911 Carrera I unlocked the doors with the key then put the key in the ignition and turned it to position 1 to prevent the alarm from sounding. I then turned it back to off, popped the front trunk and shut the door. When I went back to the door after loading up the trunk the door had locked itself. So... Doors are locked Key is in ignition Front hood is open I don't have a spare key with me Is there any way to unlock the doors from under the front hood? Any other suggestions? Thanks...

Having NO idea, I bet you are (a) pissed (b) mad (c) worried (d) going to be calling a locksmith (last time this happened to me it was less than $80 in a van I did the same thing with... but while on vacation, at the beach, wearing shorts and tea-shirt, with wife and 2 kids, in 50 degree weather, in a torrential rain squall, for 2 hours while the guy "managed" to arrive for his 30 seconds of work) GL, hope it turns out for you.. post your findings

What you describe should not happen. The doors should not automatically lock (after being unlocked) if the driver or passenger door have been opened. I just tried to do what you described with my car and I couldn't make it happen. How did you do this?

POST 4Original post

yeah how the heck did this happen...I can not get mine to do this.

POST 5Original post

I read in the manual somewhere about this if certain things are done, the car will lock down... now I cant find it.... any one remember this too?

POST 6Original post

What a crappy scenario. Good luck and let us know how you resolved it.

OK. Problem solved! 1-800-PORSCHE for roadside assistance. They sent a guy out to the middle of nowhere and he had the car unlocked within five minutes. I won't go into the details here but I have to say I was very impressed with Porsche's level of service. As for the problem itself, I don't know how it happened either. I don't think it should lock the doors by itself with the key in the ignition. I'm sure it's never done it before. I'm going to look into this and try to find out what's wrong. In the meantime I will always make sure the key is in my hand when I shut the doors. Thanks for the help guys!

I learned my lesson the hard way with one of my old cars so I know how you feel. Nowadays, I will roll the driver side window down if the key is left in the ignition. Just a valet parking trick.
