I think it started when I used to ride my bicycle in the early '60's to a small shop where two guys sold used import cars, but had a couple of Porsches that they raced in the back of their shop.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am. Most of the time I am thinking about cars. I look at everything on the road. Lots of them make me laugh out loud, but am really happy when I see a fine looking car zipping down the highway. I even go to great lengths to keep the garage especially clean, so my cars have a neat place to live. Every weekend I spend hours making sure they are in top notch shape. I buy the best oil, the best gasoline, and the best polish/wax,etc. I guess it is an addiction, just like booze or food is to some people, but it sure makes me feel good to receive offers for a car that is not for sale. So, tell us about your love of cars.

POST 2Original post

I have a thing about wanting to eat outside when there's a patio. Even in the Houston summer heat! Why? Not to be outside, but to see any cars pulling up, leaving, or driving by! haha. My wife laughs at me for wanting to "watch cars" all the time. Funny part about that is, ever since I can remember, I used to like to "watch cars". I'd go for walks with my Grandfather when I was like 5 and ask to sit and just watch. He's do it, but now looking back, I know he really wanted to keep walking. Any chance I get to look at them. I go to dealers all the time just to browse. Pretty much any dealer (except real low end like Kia). I just enjoy the industry, the innovations, the smell of the leather. I even get excited when my wife says she's busy on a Saturday so I can go look (if I'm not playing golf). It gives me an excuse to drive my car as well as look at other cars. This little habit cost me about $82K as well when I happened into Momentum Porsche in Houston and a cool sales guy let me drive one. I wasn't really even thinking I could ever get one of these cars. He let me drive one anyway even though at that time I couldn't afford it. It paid off for him a year later! Hi, my name is Scott, and I'm a car-aholic.

Ten years old, Saratoga, California, a Monogram model of a '32 Ford with straight pipes. A gearhead is born. (It took me four years to figure out sportscars were cooler than Deuce coupes or T roadsters)

POST 4Original post

Careful with the gearhead; one might think you are a programmer

POST 5Original post

It all started when I was around 4 years old. My dad was a mechanic at a Buick dealership across the street from my school. On Thursdays he worked until 7:30pm and I used to go there and play in the speedy-dry with my Matchbox cars and hand him wrenches. Then my dad had his own shop at the house, so I was around them 24-7. My 2nd car was a 72 914...but then I got a 67 911. In my professional career I've worked for several auto manufacturers (including my current employer), and a couple of dealerships. When I am not working on cars for my job, I work on my own, watch Speedchannel or read car magazines. I tell the wife that it's research...yeah...that's it...

POST 6Original post

i confess i am also a car enthusiast (nut?) when my son was in the fifth grade his teacher gave the class a project to ask their fathers all the cars they had ever owned. he told me after he read my list the entire class broke out in wild cheering! god bless those children -- i know how they feel!

POST 7Original post

My Dad had a Porsche dealership in the mid-50's in Bakersfield. Used to go nearby as a little kid to see sport cars races. There it all started. Then the model cars. Took me till my early thirties to be able to afford me first 911, and it has been nothing else since then. If you see what I did with my car over a time span of six years, you can see the passion. I eagerly anticipated every modification. Every morning, when I turn on the ignition, pull out of the driveway slowly, I enjoy the sound of the flat six and the solid feel of the suspension, as if it were the first time. Living in Switzerland is great for Porsche driving: great winding mountain roads, close to the German autobahn for a flat out run...

POST 8Original post

POST 9Original post

I'm glad that I am not the only one obsessed with cars. I think it started when I used to ride my bicycle in the early '60's to a small shop where two guys sold used import cars, but had a couple of Porsches that they raced in the back of their shop. I have been fascinated with cars ever since, especially Porsches. My wife thinks that I am nuts. She's probably right because my cars go beyond safe, reliable transportation. Aside from enjoying any opportunity to drive, I get most car mags and spend too much time taking care of my cars and corresponding via the Internet with others with similar interests. Yes, I am a car addict and I hope that there is no cure for my affliction. It is fun, legal and is not harmful to others.

POST 10Original post

I've always had a Porsche poster on my wall when I was growing up, it was a big day when I actually got the real thing. I spent around 4-5 hours this past weekend just cleaning up my car, washing, polishing, waxing. Then I get more ideas about what mods I want to do next. Women in the office say I'm nuts but I love my car! By the way, if you guys are real **** about your paint finish, try the Griot's Garage line. You use a clay to remove surface contaminants, then a polishing paste, then the wax. Gets the finish smooth and shiny!

POST 11Original post

I think we just started a support group. I have always been car crazy. Started out with American iron. In 1966 went to my first road race at Nelsons Ledges. In the pits was a '65 356C cab. Fell in love. Went thru 2 Shelby GT 350's a couple of Healeys, and a Corvette before I bought my first Porsche, a '79 911SC. Since then, I've owned an '86 Carrera, '00 C-2, '02 C-2 and currently own an '02 Lapis Blue Boxter and an '02 Artic Silver TT. I'm helplessly addicted. I get giddy everytime I fire up the TT.

POST 13Original post

Watching "Risky Business" with Rebecca Demornay and Tom Cruise is what started my love for Porsche's. He was borrowing his dad's 928 and was running away from some hoodlum and escaped and with a smile on his face and RayBans on, he said Porsche's slogan "Porsche-there is no substitute!!!". I'm hooked!! Regards. Mike

POST 14Original post

My insanity began at an early age when I would draw cars during the more boring parts of class. My doodles were always cars. When I was 8 or 9 I discovered the world of European automobiles. My first love was an old Jaguar Coupe that needed renovation, but I was in love with all of the dash buttons and the wood. Later I would learn about suspension technology and racing. Alfa Romeos had me through my college years . Luckily, I can indulge my passion in my work as an automotive researcher. I have been lucky enough to assist many manufacterers consumer test new products prior to launch (BMW Z3, BMW745i, DeLorean, Infiniti Q45, etc). I have been a certified Jeep Nut for ten years with two modified Wranglers in my garage to show for my enthusiasm for the off road aspects of the sport. Porsche is just my latest love and I hope for a long lasting bloom!

POST 15Original post

Yes, please admit me to caraholics anonymous. I grew up in a big US auto town, Lansing Michigan. Between Fisher Body and the Olds Plants, most people had major ties to the industry, my family included. My grandfather came here from Germany and never lost his lust for German cars. We had to be stealth, but between my grandfather, father and his brothers we kept a rotating stable of MBZ's and quite a few unique cars/trucks/motorcycles/tractors/boats. My wife wants to admit me to the obsessive/compulsive ward at the local hospital because I am consumed by buying and selling cars. I have had 12 vehicles in a little over 4 years....PLEASE HELP ME STOP!!!

POST 16Original post

I have to admit, or be admitted.. I am a car nut. I've always doodled cars when I was little, and always had a fascination for things that went fast. Love Hydro plane racing, motorcycles, jets, and especially cars. My dad has always loved Porsches, and always wanted one, and when I can afford it, I want to buy him one. I read nothing but car magazines, search for nothing but car stuff on the net, and weekends are usually spent with the car. Particular interests are owning a Porsche, a BMW, and building a hotrod in the garage, probably a 32 roadster, or 427 Cobra replica..
