I bought this unit as I have 6 cars and I do like using Carplay, so I can just take it with me in whichever car I'm using that day.

As per the pic, my insert will fill 6 and cover 5 and 6 completely, all good!

Works great except having to reset the bluetooth connection once in a while.

IF I keep it there I will run the power cord so it is not as visible.

So I got this external airplay unit and tested it today. Works great! It has an FM transmitter also so sounds come through the PCM unit. It actually sounds really good! It also has an SD slot so you can put your own music on it. It also has Android auto built-in so you can do that also. IF you
have a 3.5 aux jack in your car it can also plugin that way. I'm working on placement where it is now its easy to see directions. IF I keep it there I will run the power cord so it is not as visible. I am also trying it on a mount to the right of the PCM unit.
I bought the same unit a couple weeks ago. Works great except having to reset the bluetooth connection once in a while. Only takes a few seconds to so, so still worth it.
Bootup times are usually fast, though sometimes the wireless can take 30 seconds or so. It's fast, no lag and the screen is good. I bought this unit as I have 6 cars and I do like using Carplay, so I can just take it with me in whichever car I'm using that day. I used a magnetic mount stuck onto the back of the unit instead of the supplied suction cup mount. I'll get an appropriate mount for each vehicle, switching will be really easy. All in all, a good non-permanent solution!

Luckily, my 996 has the lower center console with a pocket on the bottom and the 6 cd holder above. I'm going to make an insert the whole length/volume of the pocket and affix a magnetic mount down low. When affixed, it will be sitting tight up against the lower section, out of the way and blocking nothing important. As per the pic, my insert will fill 6 and cover 5 and 6 completely, all good!
