Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

If you do not want to update the sound system to something else and want to use PCM navi, then go 03+
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I'm going to buy a 2002+ Carrera early June. Mostly intrested in a C4S or a C4 (has to be All-Wheel Drive). I'm going with a 2002+ because of the Face-Lift and the Bigger More Power Full Motor and other Re-finements. Now before i buy something is there anything i should know about the 2002+? Common Problems, Recalls and any issues the 911 has or any issues a perticular Model has. Thanks and advance and please LMK
PPI? I have been drive a VW for the past 3 years. And as you might know VW MK4 have a lot of eletrical problems and mechanical. Its been fun but now i'm really tired of fixing the problems. So i'm moving on to better things
This is what i have been driving and it will be gone by June hit.

No problems that I am aware of.
If you plan on doing anything with your sound system (the one in the dash, not the one out back
) consider that the cars from 2003 on have the MOST bus which will complicate things.
Other than that there are no big differences 2002 - 2004.
If you want PCM, then be aware of the version
Most 2002 models (except very few) have an unsupported navigation system. It will not be updated anymore
2003+ have MOST, but the navigation is being updated.
If you do not want to update the sound system to something else and want to use PCM navi, then go 03+
soo 2002 does not Support OEM NAVI? (if i want to add OEM NAVI as a Mod). Can i use Aftermarket Navi? What are the Versions on the PCM? and how do i find out?
This thread has miscommunication written all over it. Zookie, read people's response more carefully.
PPI = Pre Purchase Inspection, i don't know what it has to do with VW
02 has OEM Navigation that is obsolete. No new maps available. However, it does have analog audio interface so upgrading aftermarket Nav is possible.
03+ has MOST optical audio interface. Upgrading stereo will be costly. 03+ Nav is CD based. Although maps are available, I don't think it'll be for long as current 997 Nav is DVD based.
Back to the car itself.
All 99+ 996 (excluding turbos, GT2, GT3) can have Rear Main Seal (RMS) oil leak issues. Common issues also include interior rattles, Mass Airflow Sensor failures, manual tranny issues. Not that this should stop you from buying since all cars including Camry have common issues.
I have a '03 C2 Coupe and Porsche recalled both the driver and passenger seats (VIN specific probably). They said the seats are not safe during accident. Dealer replaced both seats under warranty so no worries at all. New leather smells great btw

Noises around door glass, dash are common but fixable.
Manual tranny failure happens and since no rebuild parts are available, new tranny is needed. This doesn't happen often but when it does, it's $$$.
The RMS issue has been beaten to death N times in this forum and a search will give you more than you need to know
Just quickly...No, RMS is not a recall. If you have an RMS leak, the best case (also most likely) is you need a new seal and the worst case (much less likely) you need a new engine
If your car is under warranty, everything will be covered (yes, even the new engine). However, if you're out of warranty, I've seen all kinds of different (in-consistent) treatments. Some people have to pay for everything including new engines in some cases, some got free RMS, some even got free new engines!
BTW, the latest generation of the seal seems to hold up well so far. Bottom line: you shouldn't let RMS deter you from getting/enjoying a 996.

I noticed both -- more w/ the former on the driver's side -- how do I go by fixing? Thx!
