Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Suggestion
Maybe the holes aren't used for a cab and the tape is just to keep out dust and debris?
Leading evidence: 'Use cab and the tape is just' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Use cab and the tape is just' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

For those with Cabs, when you remove your rear cover to access the relays and roof hydraulics, to either side of the rear latch mechanism, there are four openings in the body (on same surface the rear latch is bolted to). I just noticed, mine had tape over the holes? This appears to have been done at the factory, as the tape is painted over and under it is only factory primer. Wondering why these are covered? I didn't take a pic but will as it's hard to describe.
I don't remember seeing what you're describing but i would have been focused on the opposite end. Maybe the holes aren't used for a cab and the tape is just to keep out dust and debris? I have my hardtop on now so I can't check.
These pictures will help understand where I'm referring to. You can see the one where the tape came off (and the bit of tape). It's similar texture to the wiring loom wrapping. If you look close, you can see the other hole with tape still in place to the right.
That tape is there to prevent dirt and debris getting between the two sheetmetal panels in that area. Common practice if there is no way to drain water (and debris). Cheaper than plugs. Usually in areas you are unlikely to see.
Thanks guys. Makes me wonder why they punched them in there in the first place then. I guess it allows galvanizing and primer into the space during the dipping process maybe? Then taped and painted?
That may be part of it. The hole removes weight from the panel. The roll-form around the hole adds structure. The welding of the panels introduce more factors. Those holes are important.
My Cab has the same; tape over the holes painted body color. I was just asking myself the same question but didn't want to expose my ignorance. Glad you asked :-)
That Stones song brings back a great memory for me. I was in Florida for Spring Break when I was much younger. On the "strip", there was a line of cars. They were all painted black. A Corvette, a Porsche 911, a Ferrari a nice Mercedes and at least one other nice car (BMW?). I remember the fifth one, it was a Jaguar.
I think my wife is tired of hearing that story every time we hear,
Paint it Black
