Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Got the car with 6k miles. Have put another 4k on it. I have run it hard for relatively short periods a few times but aside from that there was probably 80% highway and 20% short drives. Changed the oil with M1 0W-40 when I got it and at 9k total miles. So last weekend I ran the car a few times at a fairly aggressive 20 minute pace lets say and shut it down for about an hour between runs. I did cool it for a while before shutdowns. Upon startup there was a pretty big cloud of smoke out the exhaust the first time and second time after these runs. The second time was maybe a bit less smoke. As said before, this had not happened before under similar conditions a few weeks ago and never after "normal" driving. Oil consumption is negligible. Running 0W-40. Was really concerned when the smoke first came out- there really was quite a bit, but it cleared fairly quickly. This only happened after two of four good engine runs and the last three times I've started it it was fine. Anyone have something like this? Oil pressure always seems ok.

POST 2Original post

Do a search, been described a lot of times. Normal occurence in the described circumstances.

POST 4Original post

Normal mostly, but annoying nonetheless. I too experience this from time to time as do some of the other guys. Have you checked the oil level, in addition to the oil pressure? When you changed the oil did you "top it up"? Of course, too little oil and good bye engine, but too much oil can also add to the smoking problem, among others.

POST 5Original post

Make plans to trade the car in as fast as possible!!! Hehehe...at least that was what I thought when it first happened to me! Seems to be normal, especially after a hard drive, and if engine oil level is on the high side.
