Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'd like to buy an aftermarket warranty for 996 and would like to know of the reputable companies out there. Thanks, Nazz

POST 2Original post

Hi Nazz, There has been a couple of rather lengthy threads on this recently. try to search "extended warranty" good luck.

POST 3Original post

After a lengthy analysis of cost and benefits, I decided on warrantydirect ( www.warrantydirect.com ) I have been very pleased with their service.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks I'll search again for "extended warranty." I tried "warranty" originally and received to many off topic threads. Thanks, Nazz

POST 5Original post

I would recommend checking with your servicing dealer as to their experience with any aftermarket warranty company before making a decision. My dealer was very down on them because they don't pay according to the same labor manuals as the dealer uses and the customer gets stuck in the middle fighting over whether a particular job is covered and for how much.

POST 6Original post

Can you elaborate on your experience with them? I've looked at them in the past too.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

By the way, this company will not warranty a car that is already out of the factory warranty. I'm trying to find a warranty for a '99.

POST 8Original post

Nazz, I too was in the market for extended warranty for 99 C2. I have compared every single ones out there and was about to purchase 1source Diamond package. However, after talking to the service rep, I found that any plastic parts and seals arent covered. I asked him about plastic coolant case and RMS. He said "Leaks" isn't covered ,nor plastic parts. This seems to be pretty standard for all aftermarket extended warranties. My dealer said I could buy an aftermarket warranty that the dealer would treat as a factory warranty for about $500/year but I declined it. Now that I think that isnt too bad either so I just sent them email asking to fax me a detailed info. BTW, my car has 13K miles.

POST 9Original post

Not sure I follow the logic of the waranty co. not taking a car out of warranty. If a car were in warranty why would it need additional coverage (2 coverages at the same time)? Make sense? They want people in warranty to predict if they want coverage after their coverage ends? Seems like fuzzy logic.

POST 10Original post

Without defending the warranty companies, I think their logic is they don't want a break in warranty coverage between the factory and themselves, i.e., they want anything that needs to be covered under the factory warranty to be fixed by the time they pick up the car. What happens is that you purchase the extended warranty just before the factory warranty runs out.

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

That doesn't sound like a bad deal at all. Let me know how it works out for you.

POST 12Original post

Nazz Do you own the car already or are you looking to buy a car and then add the warranty?

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm shopping now, so I'll need one when I buy the car.

POST 14Original post

Nazz I bought my car from a private individual and prior to titling it ran it through my local Porsche dealer who inspected it and then put it under a Porshe Certified Warranty. That gives you an additional 2 years and 100,000 miles of coverage. The cost for the warranty was $1595 and the inspection was around $500. I was far more comfortable with a warranty from Porsche than a third-party. The upside for the dealer was that they made some money on the extended warranty and they also get all the service business.
