I've used regular carpet mats for winter before and the problem is that they start to smell moldy from all the water they soak up.

I ask because on a previous car I bought used, the PO had put in all-weather mats that were about the thickness of 3 or 4 paint-tray-liners stacked on top of each other.

Looking for rubber mat recommendations that are a good fit to replace Lloyd mats for winter.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Weathertech quality is great but their "one size fits many" leaves something to be desired.
I thought I saw in Excellence that Weathertech makes mats for 996/Boxsters. I went to Weathertech's site and found them.

The only problem with these mats is that they are really heavy.
I'm actually going to sacrifice my OEM carpet mats by using them as winter mats. I've found over the years that rubber mats let stuff slosh around and my short commute doesn't allow time for it to evaporate. The result is sometimes that you get salt stains on the carpet around the edge of the mat. The carpet mats will hold the crap in place.
Just another way of looking at it.
I also have the LLoyds. The fit is great, especially if you take the carpet mats out. The only downside is that they stink; in fact, I had to leave them air out in the garage for a week or so before the smell became tolerable. Mine are gray - not sure of the smell of other colors.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one with a sensitive nose. Bad news is, even after a year, I walked by them in the garage today and took a sniff - they still stink.

Guys, isn't this what regular old floor mats are for in the first place? It always cracks me up whenever I see people who have floor mats covering their carpets, and plastic fugly mats covering their floor mats. Why not just leave the car in the garage all winter?! I mean, why risk dirtying the floor mats?
I bought new Lloyds carpet mats, but didn't put them in. Plan on using the OEM Porsche mats for the winter, then using the Lloyds mats next spring. I hate the feel of rubber on the floor! Plus, the get filthy, and mark up your pants / shoes!
I've used regular carpet mats for winter before and the problem is that they start to smell moldy from all the water they soak up. When the rubber mats get dirty, I just powerwash them (along with the rest of the car) at a coin-op once a week.
Phil, I can totally understand where you're coming from, but the carpet mats aren't attached. I have them vacuumed weekly and shampooed monthly. That should allay any concerns you'll have about bad smells. Frankly, as some have mentioned, the rubber smell from winter mats often strikes me as toxic.

Hi, I ran across this thread while searching for comments on Weathertech mats.
I have a non-pcar for which I am considering the rubber mats because it will see lots of winter usage (think soggy, muddy boots). I am thinking about the Weathertech "digital fit" because
1) the seem to be shaped a little like "pans" - i.e. the perimeter of the mat forms a lip.
2) in the rear, the mat is a 1-piece mat that goes across the transmission tunnel. The OEM rubber mats are only mats for the footwells proper and I don't want to constantly nag the kids to not step on the carpet with muddy boots
Has anyone tried Weathertech's Digital Fit mats? Are they "hefty"? I ask because on a previous car I bought used, the PO had put in all-weather mats that were about the thickness of 3 or 4 paint-tray-liners stacked on top of each other. They did the job but looked flimsy. From Weathertech's website it is hard to tell whether the mats are "hefty".
Thanks in advance.
OEM mats are cheap, I picked up a brand new set of 4 from the dealer for like $100... I took my "old" ones out and sprayed the crap out of them with scothguard (phew they stunk for a week too but I left them out of the car till the smell went away) then just use them... in the summer I will toss in the new mats I already bought...
That or cover them with duct tape so they stay clean?
