Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Of course, fully cleaned, conditioned and massaged with 2 coats of Rejex.
Leading evidence: 'Clean conditioned and massaged' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Clean conditioned and massaged' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Thanks for the detailed instructions on jacking up the car - I changed my oil yesterday and managed to avoid having it drop on my chest.

I used a dual control Genie remote, soldered a jumper to the unpowered side of each of the buttons on the circuit board and connected each of the jumpers to one of the two switched connections on the FLS.

First, for TOMDEG: I used a Footwall Lighting Switch ("FLS") that comes in the stock gloss.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

After months of searching (and years of wanting), I found my 2001 996 about a month ago. It only had 8,500 miles when I got it (Do people use these for display only?), but Ive kicked it over 9,600 within five weeks. Not intended to be my everyday driver (E430 for that), but Houstons had some beautiful weather recently.
My wife has driven it once, did great, but proclaimed it too fast. She doesnt mind being a passenger though. Im trying to teach my 17yo daughter how to use the manual (Step 1: Drink heavily). My 20yo son is at the University of Oregon and doesnt know I got it. Its better that way. Hell get the new insurance cards on Monday bet he doesnt notice.
A couple of questions:
1. What do you use the under steering wheel bin for?
2. I make it a habit to raise the top for extended (e.g. overnight in garage) stops in order to keep it taut. Should I worry about wearing out the mechanism?
I hope the pictures come through; Im new at this.
Details at purchase include: 2001 C2 Cab, Orient Red w/grey top, Litronics, Supple Leather, CD Changer, Carbon Shifter/Brake, Aluminum Interior Trim
What Ive done (thanks to many of you for the guidance):
Instilled a spoiler switch and a dual control garage door opener in the dash I hate unused buttons. Put on clear side markers orange does not look good with OR. Mounted OMP pedals, a silver air bag crest and aluminum gauge rings (see picture). Of course, fully cleaned, conditioned and massaged with 2 coats of Rejex.
What I want to add:
A B&M shifter (we have a 25th anniversary coming up and I did mention that the shifter is silver) and an EVO intake. I just ordered the rubber license plate holder (Thanks programmatore!). Im changing the oil tomorrow.
It's actually beneath the dash and centered beneath the steering wheel. It seems too small for the necessary manuals. BTW, all of my other cars are Mercs. At least they speak the same language!
Congrats. Yep, the owners manual goes in there. BTW, when you put in the switch for the garage opener, did you spray it with clear gloss to match the other switches or leave it matte?
Nice Ride!, and WELCOME to P-country! Can you supply a little more info on how you did the switch for the spoiler? Also, info on the "dual control" garage opener - not sure I understand this one, does one switch control two garage doors or two switches control one door each?
Strange coincidence - I've had my P-car 6 weeks and have been trying to teach my 17 year old daughter how to drive a stick.
First, for TOMDEG: I used a Footwall Lighting Switch ("FLS") that comes in the stock gloss. Using the Targa switch would have made the wiring much easier (except for the "safety", see below), but it's only comes in matte finish.
For gota911: For the Spoiler switch, see Itzkirb's excellent instructions (
http://hobbystage.net/porsche/itzkirb/
) and a similar discussion in the DIY section of RennTech.org. This was really easy to do.
The garage door opener controls either of my Genie units in the garage. I used a dual control Genie remote, soldered a jumper to the unpowered side of each of the buttons on the circuit board and connected each of the jumpers to one of the two switched connections on the FLS. Therefore, one switch independently controls two doors. I wanted some kind of "safety" since the FLS is not intuitively marked and I didn't want to have the door inadvertently operate. Thus, the power comes from a switched dashboard light source. Once again, thanks to Itzkirb for some ideas on how to do this. Good luck on the driving lessons!
I put my top up four or five times a day sometimes. Always when I park even for a few minutes. I think a car with a top down unattended is just asking for it. I leave the top down with hard top on for 4 months while car is stored in winter and before in fall and after in spring. In 6 years I have never had any problems. Top still looks and works as new. I do put the Porsche top water proofing stuff on in the spring every year.
Welcome!
As you know Orient Red Metallic with a Graphite Grey top and interior is THE signature Porsche color. it is sophisticated, and rare. All others are pale in comparison!
Congratulations
I fully agree, you are indeed a gentleman and a scholar Mr. Express.
Thanks for the detailed instructions on jacking up the car - I changed my oil yesterday and managed to avoid having it drop on my chest. I also used the the opportunity to remove the wheels to clean and Rejex the insides. My wife said that I've now crossed the line from merely obsessed to clinically ****.
Question for you: How would you remove the remains of a stray Rejex squirt from the cab top?
Electric Lizard
removing stray RejeX -
since RejeX is resists soap and most solvents, the best way to remove it is to abrade it with a toothbrush and baking soda. be very careful (as in use your best judgment) so you don't end up with an undesired result. i might be able to help out some more if want to call me.
please let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks Barry. I'll give it a (careful) shot. BTW, I noticed on your website that you are affiliated with CorrosionX as well as Rejex. I use CorrosionX on the cast iron parts of my woodworking tools (e.g. table saw table) and it works great, even in Houston's climate.
Well Santa, I've been very good this year and I'd like to get a B&M shifter and an EVO intake.
I spoke to my son this evening, as he just found out that I got the car and he asked if I was getting the "red brake calipers" (like your car has). I figure that it must be a west coast thing. Questions: What is the most significant impact they have on performance and do they come in Orient Red?
