In fact, I'd rank it only slightly better than buying a C2 and changing the badge to read GT3.

For 99-01 cars, the idea of changing the rear is to fit wider exhaust tips (eg the tips on the turbo x50 cars).

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Can it be done or has anyone done it? Any additional fitment issues that might result from it? I'm also wondering because I know the exhaust cut-outs for +02 996s is different than 99-01 cars. Will I run into an issue with my Fabspeed exhaust? Thanks for your help guys/gals

POST 2Original post

Only the exhaust tips will be an issue of fitment. Everything else is compatible.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

thanks alon, so if I weld on new +02 tips I should be all set? This actually works out better for me since I've always wanted the turbo semi-dual tips...

POST 4Original post

Weld? They will slip and bolt right on just as your current tips. Any Porsche tips will just bolt on.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

sorry i meant didn't mean "weld"... I think someone put something in the coffee this morning That's great news though.. thanks for your help

POST 6Original post

I have the stock exhaust on my '99, but I ordered the larger Carrera tips. Will those work with the 02 rear bumper? I have been wondering about replacing the rear bumper for a while. Thanks, Sean

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

wow.. this is an OLD post revisted What "larger" carerra tips are you referring to? If you are thinking about fitting 99-01 tips and replacing your bumper to a 02+, my question would be.... Why? The only reason I ask is because most people upgrade to an 02+ rear to fit the newer looking exahust tips... The aesthetic look (besides the exhaust cut-out) is very similar... But if you have already bought 02+ tips, then the only way it will fit is with a +02 bumper... FYI

POST 8Original post

Yeah, I did a search and had to scroll for a while I ordered the "Tequipment Sports Tailpipes Chrome-plated tailpipes featuring a larger, elliptical cross-section. Suitable for all 911 (Type 996) models up to 07/01." Forgot to mention there is a small dink in my rear bumper that only I know about that kinda bugs me, heh. So, I figured if I do replace it, maybe the 02 would look nice. Thanks, Sean

POST 9Original post

Maybe I am in the minority here, but I kinda like the idea of keeping years stock. It's one thing to mod a vehicle, it's another thing to dress an '00 or '01 as the '02. It's a little rice, to borrow the term. In fact, I'd rank it only slightly better than buying a C2 and changing the badge to read GT3. Let's put it this way: you ain't fooling anyone. It would seem a much better use of funds to upgrade suspension, wheels, shifter, exhaust, etc. Just my $0.02.

POST 10Original post

Good point. I think we can consider this case closed. Thanks, Sean

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So it's rice to put mods from a 02+ on a 99-01 996, but do you think its rice for people to have mods from a turbo/gt2/gt3 on a 996? I don't think people on this board are trying to fool people when... Lets say, they put a turbo/gt3 bumper on, or upgrade the front or rear of the car to 02s (for 99-01 996s). To the general population, no one could care less or even notice the change from an 01 to 02 For 99-01 cars, the idea of changing the rear is to fit wider exhaust tips (eg the tips on the turbo x50 cars). That's it. It looks almost identical to the 99-01 bumpers except the rear exhaust cutout. Even if someone were to change rears from a 99-01 to an 02+ and not change the front, any enthusiast who cared would obviously know its a 99-01. Now if you are rocking no aero kit, stock suspension and stock brakes with a GT3 badge, i think, that is a much different story. To each his own though.... That's what makes the modding comunity so great, everyone has a different opinion

POST 12Original post

nycebo, so what do you think about 1/2 of the country that engages in plastic surgery, botox, youth beauty creams, crap, etc.. enhancements for themselves in order to look younger? posers? :> i say to each their own.. I have a 99 with a twin turbo front bumper.. i'm not fooling anyone, but I like the twin turbo bumper, and I needed to replace mine after a minor accident... so for the same price, is it rice to put on the twin turbo bumper instead of the boring, generic 99 bumper? I know i'm not fooling anyone.. it's not a twin turbo.. <g> as i said before.. to each their own i say imho..

POST 13Original post

Bob, you're spot on....to each his own. I surely didn't intend to be the end all be all expert with my opinion. But, that said, I stand by what I said. As for your quote above, don't even get me started. The amount spent annually on cosmetic transformation and beauty products in this country would buy every man, woman, and child a brand new Porsche and that's guaranteed to put a bigger smile on one's face than a little botox injection (which in and of itself is a potential oxymoron because a little too much botox will guarantee that you won't be smiling for months).

POST 14Original post

well actually you can't get botox around the facial region, because of just that.. that's what restilyne is for... don't ask me how i know
