Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

The first cap I picked up turned out to be identical (only the gasket, not the cap), it was marked for a Caliber.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I don't remember seeing a thread that lists Original Equipment (OE) parts that are the same as the ones that come in a Porsche box. Back from the local wrecking yard and found that the gas cap gasket from a Dodge Neon or Dodge Caliber are the same as my '99 996. I was there for something else and while waiting for them to bring out the part, noticed a couple of boxes of gas caps. Mine was badly cracked and since the old gasket was in my DD, decided to grab it and see if by chance matches anything in that box. The first cap I picked up turned out to be identical (only the gasket, not the cap), it was marked for a Caliber. Then picked up another that was for a Neon and sure as hell the gasket was the same. The caps were selling for a whopping $1 CDN. Another find was during last year during the engine refresh. The release bearing for the clutch is the same as the one from a '97 Audi A4 1.8T. They can be found online for around $40. The Porsche ones are over $150.

POST 3Original post

Good finds, you cheapskate. That gaskets at least $20 from Porsche.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

It's no so much the cost but the principle that you can find this gasket anywhere and these other OE parts are a lot more available too. BUT I am very cheap.
