I was going to use a resistor but now I'm confused as to where to even install it.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

13 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hey guys, Just recently purchased a Momo Prototipo for my car -- losing the airbag but looking better(not a daily). Anyhow I got the wheel and read a bunch of instructions on how to remove the stock wheel but none of the instructions to install the Momo are complete. A few things 1. It says a spacer is required for the 996... I have no idea what spacer I'm looking for and I don't see anything in the kit. Does anyone have any insight? 2. No mention of the L adapter for the horn outside of a few thread for the 993 -- http://www.autoatlanta.com/Porsche-S...465210400.html Is this what I need? 3. Do I need to be cutting wires to trick the airbag? I was going to use a resistor but now I'm confused as to where to even install it. Any insight into that? Thanks! Been using this thread as a basis so far: https://rennlist.com/forums/993-foru...-long-dyi.html

POST 2Original post

1) Not sure about the spacer...don't think you'll really need one. 2) Looks like you have the correct part. 3) This website was very helpful when it came to the part about using the resistor. It really isn't too difficult....good way to spend one's afternoon. Have fun!

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks Gents - the spacer isn't needed? I see it all over but I will take your word for it. Thanks

POST 5Original post

follow the link within the link.. https://rennlist.com/forums/boxster-...ml#post9923015 Since you're using a momo hub: https://rennlist.com/forums/993-foru...l#post10506501 The spacer might just be an M14~ish washer, the threads on the 996 steering column aren't long enough for the thinner momo hub. The nut bottoms before contacting the hub otherwise.

POST 6Original post

spacer...you mean hub? you need the hub. they have 996 specific hubs on 996 there is a horn wire. you plug that into the back of the horn button. They sell horn buttons with porsche emblem in silver or gold no l bracket on 996

POST 7Original post

this is a tiptronic wheel ...should be the same for you except the paddles momo montecarlos

POST 9Original post

Why on earth would you want to remove an airbag? Not to mention it is illegal and will not pass state inspection.

No, I know the hub. The spacer is mentioned on every site that sells the hub (Amazon, OMP, Rennline, etc). In small letters "Spacer required for 996.. yada yada". Also, in the installation of the Momo wheel you have to remove the clockspring which is where the horn wire is. No way to keep the clockspring and install the momo wheel. Also, thanks guys... may just need a washer then. As far as airbag... yeah. I drive the car 1-2 times a week, maybe 1-3 miles.

Wow.. this is awesome! Thanks. Looks like a lot more work than I expected. Where did you get the pin used to fill in where there wasnt one? (ie there is an L shaped pin connected to the wire.. is that generically available?)

POST 13Original post

the oem clockspring is still there in the above setup. the hub installs over the oem clockspring. The hub has a hole on the right where the wires from the clockspring connect the horn and airbags wires.
