In my circle of friends, the prime use for Porsches is on the track.

Sorry to all of you , The deal with the car went sour...We agreed on a price and the guy shows up with 3K less. I was so pissed that he tried this ****.I told him I will give you one more chance, then he said he thought he was paying too much, so I told him the car was not for sale to him any more, I said you could come to me with 200 K he would never own this car. LOL he was so trying to save the deal. I am sorry to all of you waiting on the parts.
Never understood why people pull that crap! What did he expect you to say? You should have said, sure, that sounds good but the ignition key is separate from the deal and you will sell it to him for $3K!!!!
Too bad to hear about your deal falling through. I know the feeling though. Negotiating is fine and try to work out the best deal you can, but once both parties agree on a deal, it should be done. I've never been a fan of that re-negotiating after the fact. Some sleazy auto dealers try that technique too.
Mark
Ok, so now that you are going to hang on to the car a LITTLE longer, paint your calipers red! That will make you feel better!
Sorry the deal fell through. Geez, what a sleeze ball! Damn Canadians! OOPS!... did I type that out loud?!?
I really am glad tho, I plan on painting the calipers now, and I think the near sale has made me see how much I love my Porsche, its not perfect but its mine. The only thing i fell bad about is all of you wanting my mods....You vultures...I love it! You all make me proud
Paul - you should be glad that we don't live in Toronto. If we did, then the next time you stopped into Starbucks to get a Latte, by the time you came back out to your car, all of the mods you were going to sell would ge gone! Picked clean buy the Rennlist Vultures!
Kilrgt,
The guy's a real **** for pulling that crap and probably wouldn't have cared for the car the same way you do. Oh well, at least we get to see you and your car next Saturday, right?
Bunch of mod ****** on this forum! And trust me, it took every ounce of control for me NOT to post to that thread requesting parts!
Hi, mine name is Dell and I am a modaholic.
........Hi Dell
so I told him the car was not for sale to him any more, I said you could come to me with 200 K he would never own this car
LOL I know exactly how youy feel since I had the same type of experience many years ago, and I told the guy that the car wasn't for sale to him at any price. We had agreed on a price provided that the car passed a PPI by his mechanic. His mechanic found no problems and then the guy wrote me a check for $4K less than what we had agreed upon. BTW when my 993 was delivered I asked the Dealer what he would give me for my car and it was approximately the same price that I was going to sell it for. In other words the guy was trying to low ball a wholesale price.
I am sorry to hear that the sale didn't go through -- I had a vested interest in the sale because
I was one of those vultures!
Anyway, good luck finding another buyer and I hope you still get the Lambo despite this (temporary) setback.
-G
You were the first person on the list in fact, I am keeping the 996 for now.I so glad i didnt start taking the car apart befor the deal went south, then i would have been pissed!
Paul,
Too bad about the deal, I can't believe the ******** tried to "negotiate" that way!
Although I was looking forward to the parts I think it would have been sad to part out such a great looking car. Having said that, if you do sell it I stiil want those parts
Cheers,
Stan
Nice try, but you can't cut the key by vin# WITHOUT ownership. How in the world is he supossed to claim ownership if Paul hasn't given the title and the car is still in his garage???
Not so! You said he should say the price is $3k less without a key. I'm suggesting I would take that deal, pay him the money, and take ownership!
Regardless, I was only joking.
That is the sign of a very poor negotiator. I meet morons like that quite often, but I see it coming a lot of the time and stop it prior to critical, usually with a quick pointed comment and cost justifications. At that point, they can either afford or they walk. You did the right thing and he'll probably continue to bug you for a few months about buying the car. Nothing better, than telling someone they can't have what they want..................................
how can all of you jump on a guy for trying to lower a price? is it so wrong? what's the problem w/ trying to pay less???? if you won't try, you won't know, right? yes, there was an earlier agreement on a price, but why SHOULDN'T he try to negotiate one more time? that's why it's called "negotiation"..... it doesn't mean he won't buy it anyway.... he's just trying....
does it really call for such childish behavior as the equivalent of taking back all your toys and going to your own sandbox, by PROHIBITING him from purchasing, even for the agreed-upon price???? LOL... that's a bit silly.
this is some weird elitist bull$hit you have going on here... after all, it's just a tarted up 996 not some classic car. you guys *ARE* aware that they cost less than many many earlier models, right?
I think you missed the key word "agreed" in Paul's initial post. There you go though as usual trying to stir things up in a post. Saw that one a mile away. Now go to time out. No Sandbox activities for you.
i addressed the fact that it was agreed-upon earlier... still does not justify the fact that just b/c he *tried* one more time to save some money, mr. killer acted pretty immaturely. unless you think responding w/ a: "that's it. you've insulted me for the last time. i forbid ye to purchase my fine automobile!!!" is normal behavior....
i cannot even imagine what mr. killer did afterwards. turn around and pompously stomp off towards his house or did he have to push the guy out of his garage so he can authoritatively press a button to shut the garage door? (yep, that'll show him you mean business...) sounds like a bit of theatrics to me, but nice try in defending him anyway.....
I sold my old Miata after getting about 30 calls in week. I had one email reply within 1 ONE uno minute of posting the for sale add. A guy flew up to NJ from Florida after begging me to sell him the car. We agreed on a price and he booked the flight. That afternoon I got a better offer but I told the guy from New Orleans the car had been sold but I would call him if it went sour. Allot of people told me I should have sold to the higher bidder but I didn't think that was right. But I sent the Florida guy an email where I made it VERY CLEAR that I would not be accepting one dime less than what we agreed to. I picked him up at airport and we closed the deal. The guy got in and drove it all the way to Florida within in an hour of getting off the plane! (While he was looking it over a guy stopped in his car to ask how much I wanted)
If he would have tried to give me less money I would simply have said nice try but the car is what we said it would be.
But I agree its a very CHEESY move. Especially if the guy didn't actually bring all the money with him. I sold my first car for $1000 and the buyer shows up flashing $600. I was annoyed but I didn't have a choice because I was 17, broke and in college and hadn't had an offer in weeks. But when I wasn't so broke anymore I got a sweet deal on my 2nd car so I put it behind me. Karma.
p.s. The kid from New Orleans kept calling for weeks tyring to get the new owner's contact info.
Timing is everything.
}{arlequin, wow, you're a dip****! People are like ********...........................everybody's got one. However, I always wondered what these guys thought of themselves. and then to degrade the 996, what do you drive dip****, a camry? Let's negotiate, go to closing, cry about renegotiating, cry some more, beg even. I can't even beleive you typed this response........................... I'd love to meet you in person so I could make fun of you IRL, dip****................................. Holy crap, I'm still laughing................................. what a dip****................
yep, this type of behavior just OOZES class. very nice. thanks for pointing yourself out as another mr. killer, now hurry up and get in line so the next time you can also have a chance to be granted permission to purchase killer's 'hella sweet' and unique go-fast goodies.
glad you brought up the camry though... have you taken a look at the 996's door handles? good. now go take a look at the camry's. they should look familiar....
Here is }{arlequin at VIR in the black run group . . . He is driving the silver 996 that is passing the red 964 in the first pic and that is about to eat a Boxster in the second pic . . . ummmmm yummmmyyy Note the rear plate . . .
It's not what you drive, but how you drive it. }{ would mop the track with you I'm sure. If you ever met "IRL" you would likely be "pwned".
Who the hell talks like that anyway?
I don't want/need his car. and thanks for the compliment, I ooze a lot of things. I still think you're a pompass dip**** with a crayola checkbook. Read your posts, read his. I don't know the guy but when a deal is made a deal is made. A man of his word is a man of his word. A chicken**** is a chicken**** otherwise known as "}{arlequin ". Negotiation is fine, negotiation is an art and is a vital process. However, negotiations stop at one time or another, usually when both parties agree and a contract is formed verbal or written. Chicken****s, you, will then try to negotiate beyond this point. Have you heard of Karma, I'm sure it will fall in your lap someday.
In summary, I think you're a dip****, it doesn't mean I hate you or want to fight you, Hell I don't even know you. For this thread, I just think you are stupid, funny, and engaging. It's all in good fun so don't take me too serious. Maybe someday we'll meet across a table and I'll be able to "school" you in negotiations. YOU ARE A LOT OF FUN, THANKS.
VaSteve, what is "pwned"? Porsche owned?
IRL, is shorthand Internet. I guess I'm a geek too, oh well.
BTW (by the way) I don't track my cars so I'm sure he's faster......... and that means, what?
ok, so no one else finds it funny that he's trying to sell parts off the car w/o even knowing whether he will be able to? a little premature i'd say.... i guess waiting until it's all finalized to post his 'parts' for sale, instead of depending on a complete stranger's word, is just too orthodox.
oh but what the hell, it's fun to start a little feeding frenzy and watch 'em all line up for the loot, just so i can yank that carrot on a stick back... no harm in starting a thread just to get some attention... kinda like making world-wide-web announcements that you're "about to buy a 997tt" , or put a deposit on a lambo, or a gt3, or a vette....
In my circle of friends, the prime use for Porsches is on the track. The fact that you can use them as a daily driver is merely a bonus. As a 996 owner, I am regularly ridiculed about the fact that most 996 drivers treat their Porsches more like a Lexus than a "traditional" Porsche. I simply spank them on the track as a response
When that wasn't good enough because they would complain about me having a 100 HP advantage, I started driving a 150 HP 944 so that I could spank them on the track, or at least die trying
In defense of the 996, I do point out to them that the in-dash espresso machine is the lightest fully automatic coffee maker on the market
Sorrry to hear the deal didn't go through. I agree that once the negotiations have stopped and you have agreed on the price (ie. the [verbal] contract is done) it's real high-school to come back with that b.s. approach.
Must confess though that I found the buyer strange from the outset - wants to buy a very-well modded car and then have all the goodies stripped out...how nutty is that (although great news for the modaholics on the board)...why not just find a plain-jane 911 if that's what you want?
Hang in there, spring is here, the cars are out and there will be more (qualified) buyers out there for your great looking p-car.
Harlequin, I couldn't disagree with you more on your defense of the reneg tactic in this case. There's nothing wrong with renegotiation and trying to pay as little as you possibly can -- as long as you make that clear to the seller. What exactly is so "admirable" and "commendable" about this person's negotiation approach? How much class and dignity is this buyer exhibiting by bringing less money than he had ALREADY agreed to? If his "supreme negotiation strategy" was to prey on the seller's potential desperation and/or weakness, then don't bitch about the undesirable outcome on the transaction as well as from the seller. At no point did Paul convey that the price may be flexible AFTER they'd reached an agreement. I suppose that doesn't bar anyone from "trying something" since the sale hasn't officially been finalized, but there's nothing dignifying about the manner of his attempt, especially at such a late stage. This has nothing to do with socio-economic status or even what's being sold. It's about good-faith conduct. He could've easily indicated his reneg intention over the phone before arriving, but instead chose to waste the seller's time in person. What makes him think the seller's time is less valuable than his?
i'm not saying there's anything admirable nor commendable about the buyer's action. i am merely pointing out that killer's response was a bit 'over the top'. the buyer probably had the remaining $3k in his other pocket, but figured there's no harm in trying just.one.more.time. i'm pretty sure he didn't expect killer to act like he's so deeply deeply offended.... he's been around on a public forum for a while, i'm sure he's thick-skinned.
what's amusing is the fact that his steadfast resolution to refuse to sell nor deal any further w/ the buyer due to his 'grave and terminal error' of trying to spend less (while being able to afford it regardless) probably cost him the sale that day. no biggie, he'll just have to deal w/ the hassle of sitting around the house another time, for another (potential, if he doesn't offend him) buyer...
i don't know the price, but let's say it was $35k. if the guy can come up w/ $32k, do you REALLY believe he doesn't have, or cannot find, the other #3k? gimme a break!...... i mean, if you want to sell the car, sell it. do it for the price that you want, but if the guy sees that you won't deal any further, and he came to buy it, then when he says, "ok, let's just do it for what we agreed on then" maybe you should reconsider stomping off and instead just selling it? that's if you want to sell and not act like you're doing everyone a favor by graciously allowing them to take possession of your highly unique and desirable automobile.... puh-leeeease...
As I understand it, all of the bling bling parts were being sold separately, and there were no go fast parts on the car, right? As such, this would be a negotiation over an absolutely stock silver 996 coupe. There is a glut of silver 996 coupes on the market. What am I missing?
Since it will be sold as a run of the mill silver 996 coupe, why not strip the parts anyway, sell them to all the people who presumably pm'd and expressed interest, and then sell the car? I am sure you could pick up a Lambo in no time.
I don't know why anyone would pay you enough for a stock plain jane 996 to justify the time and hassle of stripping off all of the bling. Aren't there any bling-meisters out there who would be willing to buy the car in pimped out mode? Seems like it would probably get a better price and be less of a hassle.
Of course, you could always trade it in for a VW . . .

If the seller had collected a deposit ( say 1000), the buyer would have been less likely to pull this crap at the end, or he would have been out the deposit.
Its simple, I thanked him for his Interest and told him in a very polite way that I do not do business with parties that practice such tactics. I dont believe in dealing after the deal has been done. Think of it like this you go work for a guy and agree on a salary of X $ a year. Then one month into the contract he short pays you, then you ask why and he said because I think I am paying you too much. I don't give a **** about 3 K, I loose that in my couch in a month, its principle not money. You don't know me and don't assume what I may have done. I do blame him for trying, a deal is more then a deal, it shows your integrity, If I sold it for 3K less then what its worth I would have went thru with it. I am a man of my word, What about you? I am glad you were not on my list for sold parts.
** I did state in my post that until I had the money in my hand ( from the car being sold)that the parts would not be sold .** I wasnt looking for a freenzy of action on the forum , I was offering some good parts to my fellow rennlist brothers.
I know that was a little pompus, but i think you all know what i mean....Dont tell my wife about that couch!! There could be 2 pairs of shoes in there!
