Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello everyone, Last year I bought a 99 c2 and I love it, I built and installed a roll bar, KW coilovers, Sparco seat and steering wheel along with Carbotech brake pads. Its a street car but is slowly turning into a track car. Its AWESOME! Probably the best car for the money. However its had a noisy pinion bearing since I bought it which is only getting worse. Im told changing the bearing is a pain in the butt so Im thinking it might be better to find another trans. Can someone point me in the right direction. I live in Troy NY which is just outside Albany. Thanks, -Jeremy Baye

POST 2Original post

If the rest of your transmission is good, you might be better off with a rebuild. GBox is the go to for many. A used transmission is $1500+, that is well on its way to a rebuild. If you want to replace, your best bet may be someone parting a car out or a salvage yard. I've had good luck with Quality Porsche Parts, others like Norspec Dismantling.

POST 3Original post

You could also put in a 997 transmission which is what I did I think there is a minor change to the linkage ( ask Charles Dundon at Dundon Motorsports who did it for me) and I got it from NorSpec. The transmission was so much better than the 996 transmission I replaced. In fact the one I replaced was rebuilt my GBOx a few years earlier because of a pinion bearing for about 4k.

POST 4Original post

I'm going through a similar issue as you are OP, except my 2nd gear synchro is what's gone. I opted for a rebuild instead of a used transmission. The main reason I chose a rebuild is I'll know what I'm getting back instead of the crap shoot that a used trans could be.
