Can I just replace the existing rear bumper with a non park assist bumper and call it a day?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So, my recently acquired '01 C4 has the Park Assist option in the rear bumper. To say it is ugly would be an understatement.... I personally think it's absolutely atrocious. I like it in terms of functionality but visually something has to be done. I'm trying to figure out what my options are and what I'd be looking at in costs to replace it so I can plan and budget for it along with the other mods I'm after. I've spent a few hours researching but can't come up with any definitive answers so I'm in need of some help. I have found several bumpers for the Turbo that have much more subtle sensors so you can barley tell they're there. But I can not find one for a non turbo. Can I just replace the existing rear bumper with a non park assist bumper and call it a day? Would I have to remove sensors or wiring to achieve this or can I just cover that stuff up with a different bumper like this...? https://www.vividracing.com/precisio...4-p-29097.html I don't know what I don't know.

POST 2Original post

Replacing the bumper. And/or remove sensors and fill areas sand and respray. I agree they look ugly like warts. I'm looking at a turbo right now and although they are subtle I think think they are ugly

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

If at all possible, I'd like to be able to go back to original spec if needed for resale. I just don't know what is behind the rear bumper that makes it work and if it can simply be covered for the time being with a replacement bumper.

POST 4Original post

The bumper skin can be swapped out easily. Just disconnect the sensors and zip tie the wire harness plugs up out of the way. Throw the original bumper skin in the attic in case you want to go back, say for resale.

POST 5Original post

Agree they don't look good on the MK1 but on the MK2 they they look good and aren't that noticeable
