Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I also ran the VIN on CarFax also, came back as a 2005 there as well.

I am currently looking at one and when I run the VIN thru the autoatlanta VIN decoder it shows:
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I mistakenly posted on the 997 boards as I thought 2005's were 997's. I wondered why it looked so much like a 996.
This 2005 CPO is for sale down at Monterey Porsche. They have lowered the price a fair amount. I think they started at $51k. Anyway, now asking $40k. Seems like a decent asking price for a CPO with 53k miles. Not heavily loaded. I like it except the wheels look too small to me but I can fix that. Curious on thoughts on this car? Seems like a good price range coming with the CPO, ya? I guess a further, more complicated/personal question, that's about the same price as you can get an '04 C4S though probably without a CPO. Which is a "better" purchase? Thanks for any help you experts can provide.

The only 996's with a 2005 model year designation were the Turbo, GT2, and GT3. My guess is they have the wrong VIN or they are mistaken. That car was manufactured in mid 2004 (or before) as it was registered at the end of the 2004 model year (see the Autocheck detail).
wheels are not to small...suspension is too high....
the first pic looks pretty good but then i scrolled down and it looks a little "weathered" and then someone slathered armor-all all over the interior and greased it all up
anyhow have the top looked at closely and the paint....looks a tad rough for the miles, maybe just the pics.
Agree, it doesn't look well cared for. The armor all bath probably covers up more as well. The top looks pretty weathered. I can't tell from the pic, but that rear window looks rather large for the glass top option. Maybe it's just the angle?
The wheels on the car didn't come with the car. The car is wearing sport design 996 wheels and the print out say turbo II wheels.
And the interior does look rough.
Sorry, I have to disagree. I am currently looking at one and when I run the VIN thru the autoatlanta VIN decoder it shows:

Jeff, I assume you're talking about this car:
https://rennlist.com/forums/vehicle-...w-hardtop.html
That is pretty weird - I didn't think they made a NB 996 in 2005.... but hey the VIN matches up !
yes, there are several 2005 996's that I know of - Turbos and GT3s
I just wasn't aware they sold regular narrow body 996 with the regular 3.6L engines - I thought 2005 was when they started to sell the normal narrow body C2 and C4 as 997s....(IN the USA at least...)
That was my impression as well as all the reading I have done. It's odd that there would be both a 996 C2 CAB and 997 C2 CAB for MY 2005. I still don't think something is right here.
I also ran the VIN on CarFax also, came back as a 2005 there as well. First entry date was 10/22/04. The odd part is it says it's AWD not RWD. The autoatlanta VIN decoder has it as RWD. I ended up passing due to an accident prior to the current owner and no info or pics to show the damage, so I assumed the worst and passed. It is currently listed in the cars for sales.
I just found this on the NADA site, note how it lists 911 GT2, GT3, 911 6 cyl 6 speed and down lower it lists 996 911 6 cyl >>>>>
