I just swapped back from the stock to the Evoms intake you gave me.

The car was tested on a Dyno Dynamics dyno, which is notorious in Minneapolis for reading low compared to standard Mustang/Dynojet.

This is not going to be entirely accurate if you plan on swapping them back to back as the adaptation values need time(drive time/mileage) to adjust so the numbers may not be that accurate between the two.

If you're running an aftermarket decklid, we don't offer an official solution but I've seen people cover it in ABS plastic or plexiglass, or increase the height of the opening of the airbox to match their decklid.

I am thinking about purchasing the EVOMS cold air intake. I am curious to hear what people think about the intake. Also if they have any other suggestions I would love to hear them. Also if I get the EVOMS Intake then I will install the EVOMS reflash as well.
How is it a cold air intake? The only true cold air intake is the OE airbox with the snorkel that goes to the spoiler. I think the aftermarket intakes are a lot of hooey. That's my two cents....
Agree the OEM syst em draws cold air from outside the car how much more of a real cold air intake can you get? The aftermarket guys all put the filter under the hood and draw in warm / hot engine bay air.
Sometimes OEM is best, I also come from the diesel truck tuning world the stock Donaldson air filter on a GM duramax will support 1000 HP yet guys stick cone filters on them all the time...
Although I have this intake along with 3 others, the best setup is the K&N direct drop in using the stock airbox and aftermarket hose(which I also have) if you have a mild setup. With that said, I've had this(Evoms) on my car for awhile now. It's a good intake but inhibited in it's full potential due to the under deck interference. If you cut underdeck area right above the filter, you will see better gains.
I got that cheap $30 or so replacement for the oem boot, and took out that dumb resonator box deal replacing it with a home depot plug.
Still pretty cold air, as I didn't change the original plumbing, and it seems to have made a difference.
I have the K&N and I think its one of the best by design, and 1/2 cost of the others. you can put your excess money in free flow exhaust. then after those mods you can get the benefits from a better ecu program
The EVOMS website says that the intake will provide me with an additional 10hp and 10 pound gain in torque. Also if I add the reflash I should get an additional 10 increase in both categories.
"I got that cheap $30 or so replacement for the oem boot, and took out that dumb resonator box deal replacing it with a home depot plug."
Ditto. Didn't notice any HP gain, but it sounds better!
I had an early Evoms intake. It *might* have been slightly stronger up top, with loss of midrange.
It sounded cool, but pfister muffs by themselves made all the noise I needed.
If you want bling, get eurocup gt or fabspeed dual cone intakes, but be prepared to go slower. The best intake is stock or the hose and cap mod.
I have the Evoms intake on mine. It was on the car when I bought it, so I don't have a frame of reference. I've been pleased with it. I think you do get some more noise from the intake.
Performance-wise it would be hard to say. Mine also has a GIAC tune specific to this, the IPD plenum and full FabSpeed exhaust.
FYI, it does still use the factory snorkel location, so it is a cold air intake. You can see the snorkel on the left hand side:

. We picked up 11whp, he picked up around 5whp. The car was tested on a Dyno Dynamics dyno, which is notorious in Minneapolis for reading low compared to standard Mustang/Dynojet. Regardless, the intake provides a modest power gain with no losses. The minor loss in throttle response off idle that user reports is eliminated with a matching tune.
The biggest reason I recommend the intake is because of the sound. At wide open throttle it gives a clean, glorious sound inside the car--a bigger increase and improvement in sound over what just a pair of mufflers will give. It also doesn't drone at all and is basically inaudible at cruise and light throttle. This video is of a 997, but the intake and the result is the same on the 996:

Hahaha. I just swapped back from the stock to the Evoms intake you gave me. My shop (Heyer Performance) suggested it only because the GT3 decklid routes the cold air through the passenger side instead of the stock location.
My butt dyno can't tell the difference, but I have to admit the sound is worth it; though I'm not sure I'd make that claim if I'd paid for the intake instead of receiving it as a generous gift from the previous owner.
I'm not going to setup dyno runs over a $30 intake, but it does seem to have a bit more midrange and response than it did before. Not mind blowing amounts more, but it is a little different car after that.
While I understand the $ per extra HP on these cars is high - our bolt-ons are DAMN price, seeing EVOMS' opinion that the best reason to add a $600 intake is the sound kind of depresses me. I mean, we all KNOW that horsepower gains for the VAST majority of aftermarket products can only be determined by a finely-calibrated butt dyno, but seeing a vendor (who makes some really nice parts) say what I already know is still kind of a bummer.
EVOMS - since you're here, would adding a cover over the air box in the photo in post #20 do anything except reduce the amount of air the filter can pull? Seems like sealing the box off with some stout plexi would reduce the amount of hot air getting sucked in from the engine bay...
I'll have Dyno runs for everyone soon...
I have the K&N currently (came with the car) and its dog****. The MAF sensor is way to close to the filter and is not capable of producing accurate measurements for the rest of the system. Its also fouled two MAF sensors, once on a roadtrip and another at the track.
My EVOMS Intake arrived yesterday and I'll be putting on a few more things along the way before dynoing. I'll bring both as swapping them is really not that difficult.
Additional parts include:
Headers/Mufflers
GT3 Throttle Body
IPD Plenum
Lightweight Pulley
GIAC Tune
Not Relevant to Dyno:
New Alternator
Tequipment Type Rollcage
Recaro Seats
Harnesses
and more.
This is not going to be entirely accurate if you plan on swapping them back to back as the adaptation values need time(drive time/mileage) to adjust so the numbers may not be that accurate between the two.
$600 for an intake is less than half the price of a new set of mufflers, and it makes a much greater difference in the sound you get inside the car. We've done a couple sets of mufflers on 997s and 996s lately (Tubi and Fabspeed), and while they improve the sound drastically outside the car, they don't make a huge difference in the note you hear from the driver's seat. That changes when you upgrade the stock cats, but then the car gets louder on the outside as well to the point of being too loud for some people. The intake is a good way to give yourself a big boost in engine sound inside the car while keeping things sane from the outside.
The open section on the right side of the airbox is contoured to fit up against the inside of the stock decklid. This is effect somewhat lost with some aftermarket decklids, but it depends how they shaped the inside edge. Once the lid is closed, it's a tight fit. That hole exists to allow the filter to be removed and installed. If you're running an aftermarket decklid, we don't offer an official solution but I've seen people cover it in ABS plastic or plexiglass, or increase the height of the opening of the airbox to match their decklid.

Interesting, the intake sound was more pronounced in my 986 than my 996, but that could be due to cab vs. coupe.
I can confirm that on a factory decklid configured with a MKII wing, the gasket material does not seal with the engine cover - but neither did the airbox that comes with the K&N 57-7000 setup. I considered fabbing something up out of plexiglas but never got around to trying it.
That brings up a good point. I've never checked to see if the gasket material around the air filter actually makes contact with my factory Aerokit taco tail. I'll have to add that to my list of things to do this weekend!
I recently installed the EVOMS cold air intake and it sounds great, especially when i am around 3,000 RPMS. It creates a whole new driving experience to the car.
I bought the Silicon hose below (In Blue)... However I have still not seen a clear write up on the resonator in the airbox and the cap? So I have not tackled this install yet.
in case you did a search but somehow missed the posts/threads about this mod, here is a recent one:

you can also search on youtube for videos to walk you thru the process.
The K&N has the MAF too far from the Throttle Body to get an accurate reading. I went through 3 MAFs (No, it was not because of the oil on the filter) due to this. If you look at the design, there's about 16 inches of hard plastic tube between the MAF and the Throttle Body.
The EVO has a much larger filter, larger tubing diameter and has the MAF in the correct location.
If you are considering an intake, you really need to also be budgeting for the larger IPD Plenum and GT3 throttle body to go with. Otherwise its just spending a few hundred bucks for the noise and not the performance.
This^! I did the ipd plenum, gt3 throttle body, and evoms intake all at once. HOLY HELL! The noise! Oh good lord the noise! You may consider ditching your radio once you do it.
Please speak more to the performance gains with the plenum and throttle body. I already have Fabspeed comp intake, exhaust, 200 cell cats X-pipe. Would be interested in maxing out any potential performance gains.
Personally, I believe more gains are made on the Intake/Plenum/TB than anywhere else on the car. Combined with a complete exhaust like the high flow cats you've already added along with a tune, you'll have some pretty solid numbers.
The throttle body increases the airflow capacity while the plenum directs traffic more efficiently. This allows the car to pull more air through out the band but most noticeably at the mid-high RPMs. The DME will adjust accordingly when reset after about 100 miles or few hours of highway cruising. A tune is needed to maximize the gains fully. I don't know exact numbers but standalone I/P/TB is probably good for about 25 hp/20 tq. There may be more with the EVOMS over stock but its most likely negligible until these are added.

This logic isn't completely 100% sound. You're assuming the tb/intake/plenum represents a bottleneck in the system. I tend to disagree but love for you to prove me wrong when you dyno it. IMO, withouth cams or any kind of headwork, you are not going to see any major gains as Porsche matched up their intake "pumping volume" to an already appropriate tb/intake. The plenum will make the engine run smoother and get rid of any nasty dips that may have been present in the system though.
I have the smaller ported tb(non gt3 spec), same intake(Evoms), and regular IPD plenum and have both measured before and after pressure differences on a manometer along with MAF values. I do have a 3.4 so 3.6 may behave slightly better to these mods.
I'm not trying to start a debate here and I'm really rooting for you on the dyno. I just have a different belief than you based on my measurements.
No worries, no offense and certainly no debate required without numbers. I haven't had time/tools to match the amount of information you're able to provide so there's not much more to go on.
I hope and believe I'm right as in my mind the basics of the system (dimensions/measurements/design) tell enough for me but certainly not enough to back up any claims. I'll see what I can do as I think it would be extremely useful for the community. I've got a few projects I need to finish beforehand (brake swap, track season preps) but should be able to setup some dyno time soon. This may take multiple sessions.
EDIT: Just had a quick shower thought and needed some confirmation:
Your stock configuration was: OEM Intake -> OEM TB (75mm) -> OEM Plenum (75mm Inlet/88mm Outlets)
Your upgraded configuration was: EVO Intake -> Ported OEM TB (75mm) -> IPD Stock Plenum Upgrade (75mm inlet/ 88mm Outlets)
Is that right?
Started with stock box/resonator delete/silicone hose/BMC drop in, stock TB( I measured 74mm but maybe my digital caliper was off), OEM Plenum.
Moved to EVOMs intake, Ported TB to 77mm from 74mm, IPD regular(non gt3) Plenum port matched to the TB.
I hope that clarifies things.
I should also clarify that this set of mods certainly did provide a slight bit of increase on the butt dyno but I don't think it was as dramatic as when I did the cat bypass. I hope to put all my stuff back on again this spring/summer now that I got my emissions out of the way. If the stars align, I'll most likely dyno my setup as well once I get the ecu tuned again. It would be nice to dyno each upgrade but for me unfortunately, it will not be feasible.
reviving an old thread here, i wish i'd done the TB, i've got fabspeed headers, high flow cats, IPD plenum and a tune.
I've had a K&N and took it off. Looking at an EVOMS intake now but seems great as is (I also have fister hacked mufflers and it sounds perfect).
The one thing i'd say did NOTHING was the plenum and they're not cheap!
thanks man, I ran the pics of the intake by Sam, Evoms president and he said it was missing the SAI bracket. I tried to barter with the seller and he acted like I was making **** up. So I passed, I like the factory airbox with all my other mods.
