I turned out to be a band aid and continued to go bad to where it was weak permanently.

Has anyone put an Optima into their 996? It looks like I'd have to buy one of their "... standard" models because there is no direct fitment. Any help? Thanks, JKC

There are a few threads on this if you search and you need an adaptor. There are also direct fit H7/94R AGM batteries from Bosh, Exide and Duralast Platinum for about $180.

There was a time when I thought Optima was a premier, top shelf battery. It certainly seemed impressive with its marketing. I made a decision to spend the bucks and invest in one a few years back. I put it into a 944 S2 that was not a daily driver but I did drive it on weekends or every few weeks. Over a period of six months, it began to lose its starting power so I used a Schumacher trickle charger. I turned out to be a band aid and continued to go bad to where it was weak permanently. I finally had to get rid of it disappointed and angry. Six more months passed and I found myself with a different S2 that needed a new battery. Time softened my opinion and I really wanted to like the Optima. Against my better judgment, I bought another one thinking "different car, can't happen twice". My driving frequency didn't change though. Sure enough, same damn thing happened. So maybe for a daily driver it's ok but I would never buy an Optima product again.

I run an ODYSSEY battery in my bike. Its small and has to start a small block Chevy which it has been doing for 5 years without any problem. When my 996 battery needs replacing I will see if they have an ODYSSEY battery that I can use to replace it.
