The car has a lot of stories but here's a bonus video of it from the shoot out (oh and my car doing a 360 during the brake test).

Mooty I was backing up a driveway 4500 feet up Mt Hamilton and actually using the mirrors.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

OK so after seeing the prices come down so much on these 996s, today we finally brought home a 1999 996 C2 for the shop. We work on so many 996/997s and have the 996TT to take care of that side of the fence but now we have an NA (for now lol) 996 to showcase some of the stuff we do in the Bay Area as well. Oh and it makes for a great track car too. It's already under 3000 pounds so we'll see where that takes us. I've always liked the 99s. No PSM, no E-gas and so forth and plus it's white....
Anyways, we've already slapped some Fikses on it that we have at the shop, some clear side markers, CF mirrors, the SSK and soon we'll get started on the more serious stuff such as the EVO SC, light weight flywheel, some coil overs blah blah blah.....
Speaking of the Bay Area I also wanted to mention what a nice experience I had at my usual haunt now at Carlsen Porsche. Every Porsche I ever buy is always from there guys (plus they have Brian to back you up in service). Gary Q over there (their head honcho in sales) is so non-pressure and down to Earth. I bought my 996TT from elsewhere and will never ever repeat that experience. The 997GT3 is also on order with him. If you're happy where you're at now then great and if not give those guys a try (ask for Gary).
Karlooz.. black car is for going fast in a straight line.. white car is for turnin' and burnin'....
Wait till you see the black car man... I hear it's a 'bit' quicker
Sharkey are you going to build the motor with forged rods and pistons to handle more boost or keep the EVO kit pretty much stock? How big are those wheels? Glad you got a new project. Ever since I saw that guys GT2 you did (at the track) in white I love the color. That was the best porsche carrera maybe ever.
For now the SC and later on we'll build up a motor.. or alongside we will
Wheels are 8.5 and 10.5....
Thanks for the kind words on the GT2. That car was probably one of my favorites of all time. It was a true monster and scared the crap out of all of us. The owner is a total Porscheholic and just keeps going on and on and on. The car has a lot of stories but here's a bonus video of it from the shoot out (oh and my car doing a 360 during the brake test).

Ok so the first mission was to pass smog, which we did... One little caveot. I forgot I had the GIAC flash on there heh.. Anyways if you're wondering the car passes with FLYING colors with a GIAC flash on there. Now the fun and games can begin...Here's a few goodies that we're plopping in for phase 1.... Exhaust, headers, pedals, steering wheel (arling has these btw folks), B&M SSK etc...
The suspension set up, brakes, SC and so forth will be arriving shortly but this is good for now:P
Nopes! No time to mess around lol... I love the Turbo but there's really something about a lighter weight RWD C2 with no PSM and no E-gas. I'm loving it... We went for Cross Suspension so that'll help some..
On the strut brace. I don't sell many of them and in my case I can't say I notice any difference but when we had the Peterson White Lightning ALMS car rebuilt in front of us at the shop, sure enough they had one. In fact all of the Rolex Grand Am and ALMS 996/997 cars have 'em so...
Alex,
Stopped in yesterday to meet you. I also have a 99 996 that I'm starting to play with. I'll be interested to hear your exhaust once installed. Let me know when is a good time for me to stop by again.
Norbert
Hi Norbert,
Great to meet you I talked to James about your car and glad he took care of ya! I'll pop those on this weekend and you can swing by next week to listen
OK, so it's been a while (mostly cos we're busy working on your darn cars all the time lol!) since the last update but this weekend we had a "bit" of time to mess with the white car... I told you were going to do something a little different. It's not finished yet but you can see where we're at right now. Obviously it wasn't easy (nor always fun) but we did get to use that body saw. Whilst we were in there we tidied up a few things like the suspension (JRZs and H&R sway bars etc..) and the brakes (EVO's bolt on front 993TT kit). Fun stuff. GT2 sized BBS' aren't here and the big obnoxious rear wing isn't on yet. Niether is the mesh etc... Stuff to do still is the EVO Super Charger and the Stage III Clutch and Light Weight Flywheel. Not enough time in the day, week or night.
How's the ride with the JRZ's and what spring rates are you using? I've been throwing them around in addition to Moton's as my winter suspension upgrade.
Andy
Haven't got it aligned yet so I don't have a full review so far. I know what the double adjustables are like on my turbo so I'm expecting something pretty good
Spring rates are 450 650...
Hi Keith, drop me an Email and I'll get you all the details.. It wasn't easy, nor cheap but I'll point you in the right direction if you like... I'll get measurements tonight for you.
had a couple of hours tonight to spend on it and we got the grills done and front bumper on. Fit pretty well (for FP). Oh and the rear. Not sure the wing is big enough I'm not at all happy that it says "GT3" on those uprights but for now there's not much we can do- just comes like that. We'll get something designed ourselves.. maybe with a shark fin or something..
OK so it's been a while since I've posted. We popped in a pair of GT3 seats with alcantara inserts (for added bling), the Tequipment roll bar (for now) and those rennline track mats. We've also got a few items collecting dust that we haven't yet had time to put on aka the Super Charger kit and the Moton ClubSports. So right now we're maxxed out in NA form and on single adjustable JRZs.
Just a few more updates to the frankenstein car with those rennline track mats, pedals and finally a new plate
The super charger is still sitting in boxes as is the LWF stage II clutch so that'll be next... For now she's a fun, light NA car.
sharkster, what are you doing with the white 996 tt? I've been lightly looking for a modded white TT. Show us some pictures if you have them. I'd like white, lowered, 6 sp, GT2 aero parts, Evom style front bumper, large add on wing cf, etc. Oh, and deep dish wheels!
Hey there... white TT's are HARD to find. Especially with black interior. I searched a LOOOOONG time for one so good luck. I'll post pix shortly for you guys
I think the car looks great................
EXCEPT, I think that rear wing is friggin ridiculous, just my opinion. I think the Aero wings and carrera wings look so much better than that ricey looking contraption..........
Brian
Hey Brian... I love ridiculous myself
It's our track car so as far as I'm concerned she gets stripped, winged, flared and anything is fair game.... If I can see out of the back window then there's something wrong...
Here's a few snapshops of the White TT, GT800 motor built (rods, pistons, GT3-R oil pump, ARP studs yadda yadda), custom intercoolers, moton suspension, GTR brakes, GT2 conversion on the front etc....
ok so with the light weight flywheel (my favorite mod) and a few weight watchers meals she's happily finished up. Well almost...
Here's a clip from this weekend...

Beautiful - except for those flares. Looks like the job is only half done and waiting for the bondo and paint to be done.
Park that in the wrong place, and someone would be at those screws in a couple of minutes.
Only thing (other than it isn't mine) that I can see that I don't like. And who cares what I think!
Thanks man
And on the flares... they're RuF but not for everyone obviously... We're making it a track car so the nice thing is that we can fit 335s in the rear now
Here's the video guys:
http://videos.g33kd.net/sharkwerks_9...bi_exhaust.wmv
I've got a whole bunch of pix of the install (will get those going soon) but for now here's a video of it with that Tubi exhaust that folks wanted to hear. We just got her running this weekend etc... The car also has a LWF. With the super charger on there it feels very much akin to a GT3. Similair power delivery except it doesn't rev as high obviously. At 3000 pounds and likely 440hp-ish (small pulley ) it should be a very fun car.
I was filming... so it wasn't me.. but he did it twice because the rev limiter is dropped 200rpms after the sc install
Got the hang of it once I told him
Hehe what kinda of connection you get there mate- 9600baud or somethng
? It's only 25MB or so... shouldn't take more than a few minutes at most to DL that thing
hey loren, aye that was the very first one james ever did (had to be a top eh
). Actually that is a later model one with a returnless system etc... The kit is different these days with different injectors etc....
Alex, that's what I was afraid of. I know there is a third radiator on the EVO S/C kit and my tip already has one. I guess I can stop saving for the S/C. Would the GIAC flash or 200 cell cats be beneficial with the mods that I have already done?
IMHO and being in Cali, I wouldn't do it on a Tip. It'd be a lot of bother/hassle etc... I'd save the money and put it towards a 996TT
In terms of the flash, that will help with the intake you have (I have a file for that) and I've done them on tips before. The throttle response is better (e-gas gets remapped) and it's also mapped for 91. On our C2 we got 23hp on the dyno from having the intake, tuning and exhaust. Not earth-shattering but still decent
Hi Mfletch, thanks for the kind words! Sorry I saw your sig and with the 99s absolutely you have the throttle cable (I prefer it that way on ours too). It's a "smaller" file in terms of the memory on it and a different ECU but actually the same story pretty much except that the E-Gas is obviously not remapped...
I just saw the question on the 200 cell cats. My answer to that is based upon experience with the NA cars I wouldn't change them out. These cars are so fussy and just about every 100 cell/200 cell combo we've tried has resulted in a CEL at some point. Not worth it.
Thanks for the info Alex. I appreciate your honesty. When I am able to, I would love to come down and visit your shop. Project White Shark Shark turned out fantastic. It would make a great feature article in one of the Porsche magazines.
No worries, I hate to see people spend money needlessly on stuff (I've done it so many times myself). You're most welcome anytime and make sure you bring Chuck with you
