Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

After a couple of years searching and two deals which fell through, I finally realized my 911 dream.
Hi guys. My name's Rick and I'm a Firefighter/Paramedic in Scottsdale, AZ. I feel like I should first thank the people who post useful technical info on this board. It's proven invaluable during my search for the right car. From reading an options sticker to learning what the common maintenance issues are, I'm confident that I now actually know a lot about these wonderful machines of ours. I've gone through an extensive modification process with my Land Rover Discovery II, with success attributable to a popular Rover forum, which led me here for my initial research.
As so many of you (if not all) have had happen, the stars finally aligned for me and the time came for 911 ownership. This story's not all that special, but it was really fun for me and I've enjoyed reading similar tales on the forum, so here's mine.
I found a 2003 Carrera on AutoTrader a couple months ago and kept an eye on it for a while. It was taken in on trade at a Land Rover dealer in Tulsa. I called and talked to a sales guy there named David, who was very easy going yet helpful. After some due diligence (CarFax, PPI at Rennsport, insurance, lining up the $), I bought a plane ticket. Following an airborne route from PHX to DEN to TUL, David picked me up curbside at the airport. Seeing my car come down the lane and stop in front of me was like watching a gorgeous model prowl down to the end of the catwalk while staring me straight in the eyes. In the back of my mind had been the option of a return flight should the car not drive right or there being some other issue. That idea evaporated quicker than water on a Phoenix sidewalk in summer. Remarkably, I was only at the dealer for around 30 minutes for a good looking over of the car and a bit of paperwork, and the deal was done.
I was on the road in earnest at about 2:00 PM and arrived at home in the Valley of The Sunstroke at 10:00 Wednesday morning after what amounted to a four hour nap at a hotel in Albuquerque.
Long story short, it's a fantastic car (specs/pics in an upcoming thread), Escort's new Passport radar detector is superb and the first time I stopped for gas, a guy in his forties paid me what I'm sure will be the first of many "Hey man, nice car" complements.
As I sat on the couch last night, laptop open in front of me, my wife asked,"What are you smiling about, car pictures or something?" I replied,"Oh nothing, just deleting my internet links to AutoTrader, Carfax and SearchTempest..."
Thanks for reading.
Congrats and welcome! Get those pics up soon - don't skimp: interior, engine bay, frunk, all angles of the exterior!
Fly out - Drive home is the best way to take delivery of any Porsche.
Congratulations and welcome! Great story, it reminds me how special these cars are. I remember very clearly my first drive in my 996. It had traveled halfway across the US on a transporter and I met it in Blaine, WA. What a fantastic feeling seeing it for the first time and starting it up! (and it still gives me that feeling every day
)
I picked mine up in Seattle and drove her back to Boston, so I understand going out of your way for the right car!

Back home from two days of work. Here are a few pics to tide you guys over. I'll post some final (nice) pics this week after I've done some finish restoration work. She needs to be handled with a clay bar, compound, polish, glaze and wax. I'm in for one really hot day of suffering tomorrow, but the results will be worth it. I've gone over it pretty well mechanically and detailed the wheels while I had them off last week.

Outside Oklahoma City on the way home. No desert dweller can pass up a nice green field for a P-Car pic!
By the dawn's early light, passing through Gallup, NM.
Out for a movie, second night of ownership.

Great story ,thanks for sharing and how gracious of you to thanks other Forum members for helping you - even before you owned the car !
Great looking 996! I bought my first 996 out in Dallas and drove it straight through home to FL. Great way to become one with the car.
I'm also a LR owner. I had two friends have their tow vehicles stolen from the hotel during track weekends. Pretty well assured that nobody is stealing my Land Rover. Even thieves have standards!
I bought mine in PA and drove two days back to Georgia, love every minute of it and still do every time I drive.
That's one great looking ride, love everything about it. Now I guess we should start a Land Rovers and Porsche thread, lol. Or how far and how long would you drive for the right P-car. Cheers
Gator,
" I had two friends have their tow vehicles stolen from the hotel during track weekends. Pretty well assured that nobody is stealing my Land Rover. Even thieves have standards ! "
Thanks for the comment. It is really difficult to sell used Land Rovers so perhaps I'll use your 'recommendation' :-).
My SO was president of the Land Rover club in Las Vegas. I've never owned one, though. We're looking to buy a beater Jeep. Never owned one of those either, but looks fun. We have some great off-roading areas in the desert near here.
Definitely should be part of their marketing! I used to brag that my LR was an excellent off road truck and it can pull 7k pounds. Now I just brag that it's not an F-250 and I can get home from the track.
Those made after 2008 or so are apparently far more reliable. Mine's been great.
I live in the same region as you: Upon getting backed up behind a large truck fire (what IS it with those in the Southwest, BTW?), we simply switched it into off road mode, drove across a gully onto an adjacent off road vehicle path, and blithely drove by the accident/towtrucks/etc, 1/2 mile down the road.
My son's friends in the vehicle at the time still talk about it---they think the LR is the miracle off road vehicle.
Of course, 13 year old boys are hardly the last word in automotive consumer information...
Planning to buy my college age daughter a 2009 or so LR2 after freshman year (shhh---don't tell her). Reliable, and REALLY cheap due to poor perceived reliability and consequent poor resale.
Land Rover - Full disclosure -my buddies run a Land Rover/Range Rover/Jag Indie shop in Pasadena. These cars suffer from the same reputation as the M96 engined P-cars and for many of the same reasons.
They are great bargains if you buy from honest experts like my buddies and they develop a fiercely loyal customer following. It is funny to see the same car change owners but still get serviced/repaired by the same mechanic. As he says to the customers "You may own the Landie, but I'm the one who really takes care of it !":-).
Good story. Congrats on the new pcar.
If you need any help with anything or have any questions that you can't find the answers to in our

Maybe some of us just have a weak spot for picking up strays. I have a rescue dog as well, so....there you go.
I never particularly liked SUVs, but have really enjoyed the LR2. I could readily drive it to extinction without coveting another SUV. They were never 'stylish', but similarly will never (well, for quite awhile) look dated, unlike some to-the-minute vehicles that look out of date in 5 years' time.
Of course, I went back to a 996 i/o a later model after a 7 year hiatus, so there's no accounting for personal tastes.
Great tech articles and affordable parts prices at Pelican, for sure. Thanks Luccia, I'll be placing an order soon for some maintenance items and other goodies. Funny how the "need" and "want" seem to blend together while I'm shopping online.
You guys know that despite their differences, the Landy and the P-Car have one big thing in common. They're both VERY good at what they're built for, which is somewhat specialized. I've driven my Disco 2 to (and perhaps beyond) the limits of its design, which is traversing impossibly rough terrain. But the thing just isn't cut out for long highway miles or cornering at speed. The 911 on the other hand corners flatter than anything I've ever driven and was quite comfy during my 1,100-mile return home, but won't go up the curb to my driveway without dragging the front unless I approach at an angle!
I had an alignment done today at Beck's in Scottsdale. I think I've found a good indie, for sure. After I got her home, I spent about five hours on the paint. I was pulling it out of the garage for pics when the sun disappeared behind some dark monsoon clouds. I'll wait until the light's right.
Yes. As opposed to the
