Great looking 996 - clean lines and and very nicely balanced!
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

As previously promised, we separated the water-cooled 911 forums into 992/991 and 997/996. This is the new 997/996 forum!
We need a good front page picture for this forum, so please post pics of your car that might work well as the face of the forum!
Great looking car in a scenic setting to boot! It's a classy and clean build, plus the car appears to be immaculate. It looks brand new!
By the way, welcome to Carpokes - browse around and post away if you care to. Pictures, input, sharing of ideas and camaraderie are what the site is all about. And thanks for posting the pic - I'm sure Tom will take note!
I can’t stop at only one, sorry!!

I came within inches of buying a car that looked exactly like that! The PPI revealed some serious driveline issues so I ended up passing and buying a new 991 instead. But your car is a serious beauty. I'm a sucker for guards red, and turbos (and Racedeck)... Have you made power mods?
Who says it’s a 996 OR 991 thing? Get both!
(Sorry for the clutter - it’s a happy working garage, not a model home!)
Oh, both cars are fully stock, zero mods, great shape. The 996 has about 90k miles, the 991 about 40k.

I got my first Porsche (1971 914) in 1982. 13 cars later I’m a still a total fanatic. I have the pictured ‘03 Turbo Aerokit and a ‘81 911sc Euro targa wide body. Glad to join this group!
That's a great Porsche history Jim! We're happy to have you - glad you found the site and joined up.
Please feel free to post pics and stories of your cars, both past and present. Carpokes hosts photos internally which makes it much easier, so no limitations. Browse around the different sub-forums too - there's a lot to see and read.
I know this subject line is 997/996 but I thought I’d share a pic of my ‘81 Euro 911sc. I’ve decided to never sell another Porsche. Every time I’ve sold one of my cars they have gone WAY up in value. I’m still pissed at myself for selling my ‘69 912 5-spd with only 33k miles for $5,000 back in the early ‘90’s. I sold it to buy a mixing board. How silly! And my wife tells me I shouldn’t have regrets
Nice!
$5k for the '69 912 - my goodness.
To be able to turn back the clock on occasion, even for just a few moments, would be glorious. However, since we have no time machines, your wife's advice is correct - outside of the learning aspect, regrets serve little purpose.
Sounds reasonable to me!!
Welcome to the forum and thank you for joining Carpokes! The pics and the car are fantastic and excellent additions to the newly created and special 997/996 hideaway. We're always in need of those who can contribute their experiences and expertise. Glad you found us!
I'll keep an eye out for you. I am at PTC and NCM as often as possible. I also try to make the PCA meetings in Brentwood along with an occasional Cars & Coffee. There are others on Carpokes from the Nashville area and more joining up which is great to see!
I'll add my own welcome Derry -- great to have you aboard and if there is anything I can do to help make Carpokes inviting for your local members, please just say the word. Carpokes has a very similar ethos to the PCA, so it's a great fit! In honor of your arrival, I used your car as the forum car for our 996/997 forum. I had to take some liberties with it to fit into the tiny format, and will likely rotate it with overs over time, but wanted to make sure you felt welcome in the meantime.

Well dangit Tom that's mighty kind of you, thank you so much sir, I appreciate the warm welcome, glad to be here & hope we can get our membership to jump onboard too
1999 C2 - Vesuvio Grey Metallic. Replaced the center caps with Porsche caps.

Excellent photograph! The action and the light are awesome.
I don't know if your color is the same as Vesuvius Gray Metallic (a PTS color), but I think it may be and if so there are no actual photos of any Porsches in that color at PCA's Rennbow Color site. Your pic would be a great addition there.
https://rennbow.org/porsche-colors/Vesu ... 20Metallic
The main all-colors page:
https://rennbow.org/porsche-colors
Scroll down to the bottom section of the main color page where colors without any actual pictures are listed. Your color is about 16 rows down in that "missing pictures" section.
The paint number is L 40X. Vesuvio Metallic. I have two photos in that category; there are a lot of them.
https://www.rennbow.org/porsche-colors/VesuvioMetallic
My mistake putting "gray" in the name.
The gray reference threw me off so thank you for the clarification!
I thought the purplish cast in your picture might somehow be due to different lighting, such as an odd colored sky. It's interesting that Rennbow describes your color as one whose appearance is highly dependent on the lighting, so the chameleon-like description probably fits quite well. I like it!
Great looking car. A very nice 996 drove past me this week and I had forgotten how hard Porsche worked to make those cars sound like the air-cooled cars they replaced. I was getting the mail and heard it coming and would have bet money it was an air cooled 911 until I saw it. In contrast my 992 has virtually none of that sound...
your 992 is a turbo, right? even the 996 turbo sounds like an irritated sewing machine from the factory. my 997 TT had no exhaust character until i swapped out for an x-pipe. not a lot of room for tubing and the turbos act as giant acoustic absorbers - it takes work to get a water cooled porsche turbo car to sound good.
^^^Ha! Thanks for the kind words… The photographer would be my son… used to be his car as well - though it was purely stock when he had it
Main St, Easthampton NY…
Also gorgeous yellows.
What I like most about yellow Porsches (or actually any nice cars with good yellows) is to see a bunch of them together, each one with a different shade or tint.
Love the decal on the rear bumper. I imagine if one was racing in Canada it would say, " If you can read this bring me some Crown Royal!"
Great looking color scheme on the car and I have run at Sebring twice, so I consider you a very lucky man!
Good Afternoon,
Recently joined this enthusiast forum, came across ad in the Excellence Magazine.
I recently purchased a 997.1 X 51 C4S Macadamia Metallic with full cocoa leather interior and only 10k miles, six speed manual of course. I understand that his would be a rare spec especially the x51 upgrade. Does anyone know perhaps how many X51 C4S coupe manual were produced in macadamia metallic? Is there a website link where one could get this info. Thanks in advance for your help.
There will be those here who can possibly help you in your information quest. Hopefully you will hear from someone who might know more.
Meanwhile, you can get certain documentation directly from Porsche. They are quick and efficient. They also might be able to offer sources for the specific data you are seeking.

It sounds as though you have purchased a super special, very low mile 911, so congrats on that! Many of us would appreciate seeing pictures and Carpokes is a very picture-friendly site so please share photos if so inclined.
Thanks much for letting us know how you found the site and, most importantly, welcome to Carpokes!!
I recently purchased my 2005 Arctic Silver 997. 4.0 liter engine makes it a great sleeper.
Hope to get the wheels back to stock soon and add and Getty ducktail.

Welcome to Carpokes! In an effort to endear you to our little corner of the Internet, your car is now the poster car for the 996/997 forum.
There's something about a 911 covered in snow...
My 99 C4 with FSI 3.8 and some body mods .

@Chucks+G50
Great pics of a great collection of nice rides! The garage space is awesome too!
Thanks for posting and sharing the photos.
Welcome to Carpokes!
Here is my 996.2 Targa.....Porsche only built 5,100 of these, compared to 104,000 coupes and 65,000 cab's....sort of rare. Oh look Mom....a 'Hatch Back' !!!!! Who knew ????? This is Porsche #35, going back to #1 in 1970, a '65 912. LOTS of P-cars over the years. Some, I wish I still had, but, happy with this fine lady.
I'll refrain from cheating since you already told us in another post. However, I'll freely admit that I knew nothing about this particular car. I found the following at Sotheby's website, so now I now know a little bit, at least until my memory of it fades as is sometimes the case.
"Connoisseur’s Convertible: Subtle Differences Make the 356 A Convertible D the Porschephile’s Pick"
and this:
"... solution was a new model, the so-called 356 A Convertible D, built by a hometown firm: Karosseriewerke Drauz KG. Porsche could not have anticipated that their collaboration with Drauz would end a mere 1,331 examples later, making examples like this 1959 Porsche 356 A 1600 S Convertible D one of the rarest non-motorsports models ever to wear the famous Stuttgart crest."

Bit of nostalgia...I had a new 997.2RS which is brought over to the Nürburgring to attend the 24 hour race. I was interested as Porsche had entered an identical car in the race , so fun to see how it would compete unmodified. I had full pit access so would wander around if I kept out of the way. The car was impeccable when it started, but that did not last:)...........
