Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The other day a friend was driving his 996 and unfortunately couldn't avoid a large rock on the road, it rattled under the car, and a day or two later a small oil leak was witnessed in the garage. In general, does anyone know if the oil leak could be connected the altercation with the rock? Or another question, are there any serious components that are exposed that the rock could have damaged? Thanks for everyones help! M.

I think he's got to get under there and take a look. We had that happen on a fun run many years ago. Big rock bounced around under a 944 and actually ended up cracking the oil pan. Hopefully it's nothing like that -- maybe an oil line or fitting -- but pretty hard to say without taking look-see.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks Tom! He suspects it’s either oil line or oil pan, unfortunately. He’s planning to flatbed it either way to the shop but curious what people have seen with their 911s over rocks. Some floors are better protected then others but from what I’ve read it’s either run damage, oil damage or AC coolant line issue. Open to stories! M.
