I used a long metal shaft like 1/4" in diameter with a hook on it squished through from the passenger side widow area vertical weather stripping on the rear of the window, and I was able to hook the driver's side door latch and pull open the door: first pull unlocked it, second pull opened the door itself.
Leading evidence: 'Use long metal shaft like 1/4" in diameter' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Recommend i do' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi all,
I picked up another C2 and let it sit a while while I was out of town. Battery died. Tried using the key to open the door, no beans. The key turns, but won't unlock the door. May be a bad actuator. Called locksmith and they couldn't do anything either. Took off the front wheel to gain access to the frunk release wire and that wouldn't budge. No beans there either. Last option. I got into the engine compartment to try to give it juice there but still no beans.
So basically I have no idea how to get into the car or pop the frunk to jump the battery. What do you guys recommend I do? Is there any possible thin I'm missing here?
Any and all input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
In all seriousness, if the locksmith couldn't do it, try the local salvage yard. They desk with this kind of stuff. Or the dealership. They might have an idea.
When you attempted to pull the release cable what happened? Did it not move... break or something else?
You should grab hold of the cable with a pair of vise grips and pull until the cable releases the latch or breaks the cable.... which ever comes first.
You can take the front bumper cover and unbolt it everywhere (except under the trunk lid) and reach up into the latch mech and attempt to pull the release from there (you will skin your knuckles a ton... :-( )
Thanks man. Dealer didn't know anything. Going to stop by a few yards after work tomorrow and see what they've got. If only there was a chip in the windshield, perfect excuse to replace it...it's against state law here in the People's Republic of New Jersey to drive with even the slightest chip on your windshield.
Try a different locksmith. My son locked my keys in my S430 while it was running a few years ago. Initial 3 locksmiths we called all said "no way to break into an S Class Benz - pick the cheapest window and smash it". Well, S Class windows don't smash easily. We ended up calling Mercedes and they gave me the name of a different locksmith. Took that guy 5 minutes tops to get in.
If worse comes to worst and you have to smash a window call and ask the prices on each window before grabbing the hammer. Ask me how i know. The smallest window on an e46 m3 is the most expensive to replace.
When you said you gave juice from the engine compartent, what excatly did you do? If you can access the jump start post, you can attach a battey charger there and try to revive the battery.
Any cop with a lockout kit can get into it, it's done thousands of time a day across the county in every car you could lock the keys in. Try giving your local pd a call and see what they say
When/if you eventually get in the car. Sort out the lock part of the drivers door. Then remove the front and clean the rads and reroute the cable so it comes out of one of the air scoops next to the Outside Air temp detector. That way you can easily get to the cable for releasing the hood.
Find a couple of street gang kids and tell them you need to jack a "porsh" car because someone owes you. They'll have it open in 10 seconds. Seriously, if a charger/jump is applied to the jumper points in the engine bay and after 24 hours that doesn't work, then Ahsai is right. Inflatable wedgie and long rod is about the only thing you can do.
Exactly but I would skip the charger and get a jumper or good battery hooked up instead, just to get it opened.
However lets assume you connections are either corroded or broken at that point, thinking out loud, I'm thinking you could remove a taillight and see if you can hook up a 12v source to the parking light connector. This could provide enough juice for your remote to work.
Does the handle under the door doorjamb open the trunk directly through a cable? I thought only the '99's were that primitive (I have one) and the later models were electronic. I assume that's why you want to get in the car.
Secondly, how did you get in the engine compartment without opening the door?
Off-Topic: I have a Cab. Since anyone with a knife can get into it and there's nothing in my car more valuable than the top, I don't lock it. Just throwing that out there.
Has this been your experience with these cables - pull the crap out of it? I had access to my 993 front emergency cable a while ago and the thing would not budge or wiggle in the least. I was working on another project so elected to not worry about it at the time but it would suck if my regular trunk cable broke.
I could get vice grips on it but I'm afraid something would break.
there are battery/jumper terminals in engine compartment (at least the C4S has them)- battery jumper on these terminals will power everything up and there is a way to get the engine compartment lid open with no power - i've done it years ago but forgot the sequence
i don't quite understand how giving a power jump to the engine compartment terminals as seen in this photo didn't resolve the problem? must be something else going on since this is a direct jump to the battery - i would think even if battery is completely gone/dead this option of jumping from engine compartment would still work??
Any chance the frunk hood doesn't have enough tension from the adjustable rubber bumpers? Try a small jimmy bar under the frunk when pulling the cable.
I had this happen to my 02 996 - doors were locked for a couple weeks and key wouldn't work in the door because the plastic tab in the latch mechanism was not lined up into the slot from the key barrel after I had repaired it some time before. I used a long metal shaft like 1/4" in diameter with a hook on it squished through from the passenger side widow area vertical weather stripping on the rear of the window, and I was able to hook the driver's side door latch and pull open the door: first pull unlocked it, second pull opened the door itself.
Did you by chance use a charger to power through the trunk? some chargers require a charge in the battery to activate their charging circuit. try with a battery and cables or a portable power pack . Good luck.
