Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I once had problems with a headlight and indicators, I changed bulbs but that didn’t resolve it.
Leading evidence: 'Replace bulbs' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check hazard-switch socket is fully seated' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
I’d try the new relay, check the hazard-switch socket is fully seated with all pins making contact, then substitute the switch if needed.

It might be worth checking those if you’ve had the lights out before the problem started.

I guess replacing the hazard switch is the next step.

By way of update; replacing the relay switch didn't fix the issue.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

By way of update; replacing the relay switch didn't fix the issue.
Both left and right indicators have been intermittent for a while and now they've stopped working all together! My hazards don't work either (can't hear any clicking). Lights are fine.
Have been trying to troubleshoot it. The bulbs seem to work. I've removed the relay switch and a replacement is on the way (cheap part).
I've also removed the hazard switch which is a bit more expensive to replace. I'm not sure the wiring looks quite right (see pictured). The wire tip (circled red) doesn't go anywhere. Does anyone have a picture to compare it to?
Thanks in advance.
With both indicators and hazards dead, I’d look at the common hazard/relay circuit first. That loose copper tail looks like part of the switch internals, so I wouldn’t connect it to anything without comparing with a known-good switch.
I’d try the new relay, check the hazard-switch socket is fully seated with all pins making contact, then substitute the switch if needed.

Thanks very much for the reply. By way of update; replacing the relay switch didn't fix the issue.
The 6 speed instructions above were really good. I managed to get to the back of the switch and made sure the connection was okay. Still no joy. I guess replacing the hazard switch is the next step. My specialist has kindly agreed to plug a working one in to see if that's the fix before I shell out for a new one.
My main beam can sometimes be intermittent too (having already taken it apart and cleaned it). Hopefully this isnt the start of more electrical gremlins. Car is 22 years old so probably to be expected!
Thanks again. Will keep you posted.
I once had problems with a headlight and indicators, I changed bulbs but that didn’t resolve it.
The car was going to my Indy for other work so I asked them to sort it, it turned out one of the pins on the headlight socket had got bent and wasn’t locating correctly. It might be worth checking those if you’ve had the lights out before the problem started.
Thanks for the replies.
I managed to get a second hand hazard light switch in the end. I took a chance on a used 986 Boxster part (£12 + delivery) and it worked! Part number 98661312110.
Well, it didn't at first, but then I put the replacement relay switch in under the footwell and then it worked (initially assuming that the original relay wasn't the issue). So I guess both the hazard switch and the relay switch had given out?
It's worth knowing that the Boxster part is interchangable, as there's lots of cheap ones on ebay, whereas the 996 ones are much more expensive.
Another problem fixed! Now to the next one, and the next one.. Thanks again.
