Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

1st thing to do is check for vacuum leaks, particularly around the intake runners, smoke test is the way.
Leading evidence: 'Check vacuum leaks, particularly around the intake runners' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check vacuum leaks, particularly around the intake runners' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I wonder if ecu loses power on start with low battery and needs to re-learn on the go again to setup running parameters.

Suggestion
Mine has done the same b4 out of the blue, usually after longer period of non use (could point to low battery).

Sorry for the late reply, if I kick it over using the accelerator it revs freely.

Are you using the Mezger emergency crank handle ( P7859 ) to try and start or jump pack ?
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

By the time I hit the hwy T Junction 3.5kms at end of my road car has sorted itself and idle issue gone.
Need help.
Back story, 996.1 gt3 flat battery, attach trickle charger, full charge, kicks over runs beautifully, but won’t idle!
Yes, I have tried removing the negative lead for 20 minutes, then starting, still won’t idle.
Yes, I have tried the ignition on 20 seconds, off 20 seconds, then ignition with no throttle, still won’t idle.
Any advice/magic is welcome.
I have a vague recollection they learn as an ecu, or at least the 997.1 did. Took a couple hundred km.
that said, at idle revs wasn’t the learning focus so my suspicion is something is wrong.
Sorry for the late reply, if I kick it over using the accelerator it revs freely. When I bring the revs down to around 900rpm, and ease off the throttle it just dies. It won’t start without touching the accelerator. Even warming it up for several minutes and bringing the revs down to idle speed, as soon as I lift off it dies.
Mine has done the same b4 out of the blue, usually after longer period of non use (could point to low battery). I usually balance the throttle to get the car down the driveway without stalling and out into my street (90km/h).

Have also pulled the maf sensor out and cleaned in the past, this has also produced a result.

Yeah, I thought it might be the MAF sensor, so I gave a clean, but no luck. Sounds like it needs a good run. If it doesn’t idle, then I may have exhausted my mechanical skills.
Good call, but it’s difficult when I’m on my own, I can’t start it and jump out and get to Mr Mezger before the idle dies. It reminds me of a Mohammed Ali quote “I’m so fast, when I turn the lights out, I’m in bed before it’s dark”.
I don’t have trouble starting Mr Mezger, but I need throttle input. He will turnover, but with no throttle, no fire. The tow truck is ordered for tomorrow morning, to meet Andrea his German friend.
Yes, fixed. The idle control valve was stuck closed. Andrea at the Pit Exchange pulled the valve out and soaked it overnight, in what must have been Stuttgart magic potion. Once reinstalled, Mr Mezger regained that slightly lumpy idle we all know and love.
Now the GT3 is ready for the BMW Porsche Challenge at SMSP in June.
On another note, does anyone know whether Porsche Club NSW members are eligible to enter the Porsche Club Victoria Phillip Island track day in September?
Every modern GT3 owner - "Is something wrong with that?"
Every Mezger owner - "No, that's just pistons having a conversation."
