I had a rear arch repaired and full respray done at Porsche Glasgow as they were competitive or sometimes cheaper than my local independent body shops.

All new inner and outer arches replaced along with the rear wiper delete, rear parking sensor removal and smooth front bumper.

If you have a local Porsche Classic Centre it could be worthwhile checking with them.

Met somebody today quite close to where I live, recommended by MLR and they do a few jobs for MLR too.

Not sure what to do about the rear arches, new entire rear quarters are £5k each plus £1K for inner arches, repair sections from Design911 are £450 but not sure they will be sufficient for the repair.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I can't put it if off any longer, my 996 2005 C4S needs the bodywork sorting out on it. Both rear arches and drivers front wing are rusty and need attention - the last road trip to the Alps in Jan this year really finished them off!
Can anybody recommend a good bodyshop around South Cheshire/North Staffordshire who is capable of cutting out and replacing the rear arches? - I'm only after the metal work to be done as I intend to respray the entire car late this year.
Will I need to source repair panels or should a decent bodyshop be able fabricate them? I know prices will vary a lot but what would be a reasonable amount to pay?
Tony, call the guys at summerhouse in Stafford. 2 years ago they did 3 of my arches and both cill/ wing edges. Did a great job at a very reasonable agreed price. Pretty sure john is the owner. I've used them 3 or 4 times over the years with various cars and have absolutely no affiliation to them.
Spoken to Summerhouse. Heading down there in a few weeks for them to have a look and advise.
I would like to get a few quotes if anyone know of anywhere else?
I still haven't had a chance to visit Summerhouse, I'm hoping to go this Friday. I've already had a quote from another reputable company and the price is high but it includes a full respray, the car will basically come back to me done and looking like new.
But I'm still looking to get a few other quotes, doesn't anyone have any other recommendations?

Came with a 5 year warranty too
I would try Greg at Southam Bodies.

Edit for link.
I got them to price up a respray on ny Targa. Lets just say the price started with a £3xxxx
They have aome really high end cars pass through, but they weren't x times better than the guy im going with
Chartwells quoted me £50k+ just for parts - that was just parts and no labour or paint costs.
I am guessing it was their way of saying that they were not interested in the job.
I'd suggest you have the metalwork carried out and the car painted by the same company.
IF, and it's a big if, you were to have problems in 12/18/24 months, such as corrosion or blistering, you're going to end up with company B (paintwork) blaming company A (metalwork) for the metalwork. When you approach company A with the issue, guess what, they'll blame company B.
It's a recipe for disaster.
didn't sound like he wanted my custom, also wanted me to go for a glass out respray starting at over £10k+VAT
It's difficult to find a legit suggestion and if you do they will be slammed with work OP, despite many 996s being in a similar state
His work is top level, but f*ck me is he hard work.
He was having a meltdown/hissy fit because he'd got to get a car ready for someone when I initially went to discuss the job with him, and I left his workshop thinking "This probably isn't someone I want to do business with" but his work is top notch, so I persevered (initially)
I needed a 996.1 GT3 front end painted by him, but he was unwilling to quote or estimate a price, and demanded I supply him with a new bumper.
I went along with the request for a new front bumper and had it delivered to him.
He rang me and said it would need quite a bit of prep work despite being brand new...
At that point I said I had to have a rough idea of price based on the hours it would take, because it wasn't a blank cheque job, so I asked him would it be 500, £1500 or £2500.
He started getting defensive, and somewhat arrogant about how good he was, but eventually said it would probably be closer to £2000 than £500.
I rocked up at his place the following day, and said I'd come to collect the bumper, so I could take it home and fit it to the car and drive the car over to him, to save transport costs.
I, nor the car, never went back ...
with regards to "his" work he also admitted he's just the MD these days when I asked to what degree he'd be personally involved.
In terms of approach and customer service (before becoming a client mind you) the best I've come across after searching for a year is Sportwagen. ...who still wanted to glass out respray the car to treat the arches and sills, and told me with regards to some surface corrosion on the inside of the front arch that they'd want to cut it out and weld new metal because "there's a point past which you can't sand steel because it is weakened structurally" ...this was the same patch of rust that I started sanding off in a handful of minutes using a brass wirebrush from Aliexpress attached to a sh*tty power drill.
Another funny quote was the geezer from SL restoration in Crawley who after asking for £10k + VAT (again, for a forced glass out respray) took great pride in telling me that they would actually remove the wings of the car to restore them properly (as if that's some great attention to detail or whatever). When I asked him if he'd warranty no rust reappearing, "nah can't do that"
Equally funny interaction was the geezer in SE London running a two man operation that asked for £9k (I told him others asked for 10k so in his mind he provided a competitive quote). His credentials were a few high value classics he had in the unit (including a countach) and a black 930 he had painted/ was currently painting, which was in the middle of the unit, I could see white specks from overspray/contamination and then he hit me with "you see how we made the paint have that orange peel like look because that's how they came from factory, they didn't have a glass-like finish"
I could go on...I've finally found someone I'm happy to proceed with but we'll see. I'll post here about it if happy with the result.
P.S. remembered another one, company in West Midlands that wanted to do a £500 "inspection" before any actual work
All I can say is that wasn’t my experience with Greg at all.
If it had been I would have gone elsewhere too and I wouldn’t have made a recommendation.
Still, you’ve both had similar negative experiences and that is useful information for others to make choices from.
I feel in the spitit of fairness I need to clarify my communications with Greg specifically shouldn't colour anyone's impression of the final result, which I can't speak to. And how I came to hear about him was Center Gravity, which is a positive.
Thanks for the recommendations, I have some calls and visits to make last week.
I've had one quote in so far, 12k all in. Basically, I drop off the car and it comes back in 4 months resprayed and reassembled. That's a glass out respray but I have to supply rear repair sections and glass seals. I'm planning to replace the front wings so that's also extra.
Not sure what to do about the rear arches, new entire rear quarters are £5k each plus £1K for inner arches, repair sections from Design911 are £450 but not sure they will be sufficient for the repair. Other option is rear quarter cuts from another car. Lots of research to do!
I just had a rear arch done. They cut out inner and outer arches all the way beyond the rot, panel beat some new arches with the correct spec material. treated all around the inside behind them, resprayed and then lacquered the whole quarter. Was £1200 all in. He said he never bothered with those arches you could buy as they never fit properly and preferred making his own so he knew it was right.
Quotes I was getting elsewhere were £3 - £3.5k
What colour is your car is also important.
Mine's yellow so nobody wants to do a local repair as it will be impossible to match.
Alex's silver so feasible to do a local repair.
If you're set to spend 15+K which is what your mentioned quote will end up being, you should also ask about whst warranty the shop is willing to provide (you might be surprised).

I've not used him, but I did spend 2 hours driving there and 2 hours back to have a meeting with him, I saw his work, had a long chat with him and found him easy to get on with, and I've seen a couple of cars he's painted out in the wild, and they were stunning. One was this Blood orange 993 ... :
If you have a search for LBL panels on facebook he makes repair sections at sensible money. Around £250 an arch I believe
A friend used his for a repair and they were nice pieces.
He wouldn’t deal with my enquiry unless it was through FB which i done have.
First quote is in: 12.5k for a full glass out respray and arches but i have to supply repair panels and window seals.
I've learnt over the years, once you find something that suits your needs and you're extremely happy with, whether that be a mechanic, decent restaurant, local sniff dealer, holiday destination, panel beater, hooker, etc, you keep it to yourself.
As Uncle Henry said in A Good Year -
"once you find a good Tailor, you must NEVER give his name away, even under the threat of bodily harm"
Met somebody today quite close to where I live, recommended by MLR and they do a few jobs for MLR too. Hoping to have a quote in a few days but they cant fit me in until the new year which is not a bad thing really if they are busy. Summerhouse this afternoon for another discussion and quote.
About 3 years ago I spent £2000 on a 3/4 respray including both rear arch rust sections cut out & repaired.
Not top notch but a decent enough job and still fine today.
Bodywork prices seem to have gone crazy, £12k is more than I paid for my car.
Looks like I've found a bodyshop to do the work. It's going to 2 separate companies but they work together on projects.
They can't fit me in until spring which gives me time to get the car restored underneath. All new inner and outer arches replaced along with the rear wiper delete, rear parking sensor removal and smooth front bumper.
I'll start a restoration post soon when I start stripping it!
