Same situation with the Corbeau gt3 seats, they couldn't tell me how low their brackets got the seats in the car and actually sent me a picture of some in a 996 that then turned out to be another car using d911 reps and a custom mounting solution

In fact they sent me pictures of a seat installed in the end, which turned out to be a design911 replica seat from years ago with a custom mounting solution.

You will get a lower seat position matching original seat runners and those mounts, but the problem is the position of the lever mechanism to use the runners.

I previously ran Pole Positions in my 996Turbo - good seat but for those over 6 foot they aren't ideal.

The Recaros will mount very low, my pole positions were super low but used genuine ultra low profile subframes which Recaro no longer make.

I did actually buy some Recaro SPG XL's over the weekend but it was more a chance purchase that has helped me think the Nogaros are probably the better option for me (trimmed up how i'd like them)

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi All,
Who has any of the above fitted? Im looking into seats and these are the main contenders. Ideally id have a mix of all 3 but there we go!
I love recaros, ive had them before in other cars but they dont seem to mount particularly low in the 996, which is a shame. Has anyone else found this and/ or found a solution. I realise I could risk these seats and go for a combo of different base mounts/ side mounts to try and get them low but its a risk.
Same situation with the Corbeau gt3 seats, they couldn't tell me how low their brackets got the seats in the car and actually sent me a picture of some in a 996 that then turned out to be another car using d911 reps and a custom mounting solution
Cobra Nogaros, ive sat in these and in a 996, the mounting solution is great and gets them a smidge lower than 997 seats. I really like the shape/ look of the seats too but the tart in me wants Recaros
I suppose at this point im just waffling out loud. Any insight appreciated!
Scott
I’d probably go Cobra Nogaro if getting low in the car matters.
The Pole Positions are the nicest of the three to my eye and they’re a known quantity, but the mounting height in a 996 can be the awkward bit unless you start mixing bases and side mounts.
The Nogaro setup seems to solve that properly and still looks right in a 996. If you already know they sit slightly lower than 997 seats, that’s a big plus.
I’d be a bit more cautious with the Corbeau GT3 reps unless someone can show a proven 996 mounting setup and actual seat height. The seat itself may be fine, but I wouldn’t buy blind on the brackets.
I tried these Sparco Evos with BBi's all singing, all dancing floor mount/side bracket and slider package. Overpriced, overweight piece of junk, that was poorly thought out and allowed little
or no adjustment with the Sparcos.
Conclusion, if you want something properly engineered, get the Brits to do it ...
I bought a pair of Cobra Nogaro a couple of years ago and although they haven't been in the 996 yet as it's off the road, I have used them in something else and I've found them close fitting, comfortable and supportive so I would 100% recommend them. The shape isn't dissimilar to the OE sports seats so they look 'right' in the 996 cabin. too.
I really like Nogaros, i've sat in Henrys ones above and thought they were great. I think that'll be my chosen path too!
I did actually buy some Recaro SPG XL's over the weekend but it was more a chance purchase that has helped me think the Nogaros are probably the better option for me (trimmed up how i'd like them)
I have some cloth nogaros with BBI (these are unnecessarily expensive!) mounts in my 996. I am about to be made redundant so I would consider selling them to keep the safety net topped up.
Scott, as you know from my other post the Recaro's are a real disappointment. Caveat if you are tall. I'm 6'2 and the 997 sports seats are really good. I think you are right on the Nogaros. if you look at the shell they have a cutaway on the outer edge of the bottom of the shell allowing the lower position.
One question though, did you research seat belt buckle extenders? I cant seem to find an OEM style stiff cable type replacement (even better if it comes with the ground wire for the airbag...) as looks like this needs to be extended to clear the lip of the seat....
I am not so tall at 5'10 (and a bit
) but do like to be sat on the floor of everything. My previous daily, up until a few months ago, was an F31 Alpina D3 and BMW have always been great at getting seats seriously low, if you want to adjust them that way. I used to feel like my 996 seating position was never as low/ good as that car, so it was weird switching between the 2! Now i've got a Touareg and the 996 now feels loads better
i am a big fan of the 997 seats and said i wouldnt fit buckets but i also knew the day would come!
I had a quick google in case i couldnt use the 996 one, i just googled 'seat belt recepticle' and it brought up many different options. Most stiff wire ones seem to be 25-30cm.
Appreciate the concern, I’m remaining positive!
I won’t be formally advertising them because, well, I like them. But happy to have a conversation with another enthusiast. My standard seats are sports anyway so they still look decent
Assuming the image they've used is actually of the 996/986 side mounts, and it's an issue for you, they won't allow for a low seating position. On the contrary, by the time you've included the OE seat runners, you'll probably need a sunroof and a pair of goggles ...
Really? I’m not saying you're wrong if you know better than me but I find that hard to believe.
If the sole operation of a company is to make carbon/GRP shelled car seats, I'm pretty sure they'd keep the operation of producing the primary component in house.
I didnt take 911uk's post as saying the Corbeau seats werent of good quality, just that the mounting solution is an unknown, which is true so far.
I emailed them and got an overall cost for the seats in a custom trim, with their mounting brackets and runners etc but they werent forthcoming with pictures or anything. In fact they sent me pictures of a seat installed in the end, which turned out to be a design911 replica seat from years ago with a custom mounting solution. This didnt inspire confidence to drop 3.7k on a pair of seats, sadly.
I just dont really understand making a specific seat for a car and then not having the pictures/ measurements to back it up. The pictures on the website are still showing the 'ears' without the plastic harness slot surrounds, which are now included (it looks like they are 3d printing their own). Surely it would take someone a couple of hours to get some proper pictures of everything and have them on the listing and they would sell a lot more.
I have info from Cobra, in fact the owner had a 996 that he developed a super low mounting solution in and the seat bases have a recess in that allows the seat to be mounted low enough. I've a lot more confidence in that solution just based off the information that has come forward. I'm awaiting a cost for these but it looks like they will be a chunk cheaper than the Corbeau gt3 seats albeit the shells wont be carbon.
As an aside, i've got a pair of Recaro SPG XL's with side mounts and 9x6/9x7 floor mounts available (sliding rails/ bolts are required) if anyone fancies a set. I found a video on Youtube from 'thecablethrottle' where hes installed them and they look great in his but i dont feel my car is a racey track type car and these look a little 'too much' for me. They have always been one of my favorite seats and i was blindsided when they came up
i feel it had to happen for me to realise they werent right for my car.
They look more like Sportster CS to me, as seen in RenaultSport cars, M Performace, Ford RS, and some others. The VXR seats have a different harness hole design and pointier headrests.
I had limited time yesterday to check, you were right, kind of... You will get a lower seat position matching original seat runners and those mounts, but the problem is the position of the lever mechanism to use the runners. Yes it fits in the gap on the mounts but the mechanism sits to the side and above the runners (in the inner channel so to speak) and this is exactly where the recaro or any other bucket seat would be at its lowest position. Works fine on a normal seat with a frame but not for a bucket, which completely defeats the object. I am resigning myself to the fact that its a direct bolt on without runners or swap for Nogaros. Anyone in south west London with a pair of those in a 996 I could try?
I previously ran Pole Positions in my 996Turbo - good seat but for those over 6 foot they aren't ideal.
Took me longer than it should have to admit they weren't ideal for my build.
If you want to retain sliders, buy a set of Audi TT MK1 rails as they fit the 996 platform.
Side mounts are also plentiful for the platform to get them sitting as low as you require.
I'm in the Midlands, regrettably a friend of 30 years had a fairly major stroke last Saturday, so I'll be travelling down to Basildon this coming Sunday.
If you're desperate to try the Nogaros and want to meet North-North East M40 area, you'd be more than welcome to try them.
If next weekend isn't convenient, I can meet you Oxford way one weekend over the next month.
These were recommended on Rennlist :
VAC Motorsports Race Seat Side Mount Brackets, Universal

They don't look that low to me (especially when you compare them to the Nogaro ultra-low side mounts) but they solved the Rennlister's height issue.
Have a look at SWMotorsports, as I can see they still do their ultra low subframes and give the option to add side mounts to them - they may have an archive of photos if you email them?
