Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi there looking for some help please. My 996 gen2 carrera 4 cooling light comes on after starting. It goes out after i start the car another 3 times. Once on the road the light stays off and the temp gauge sits at 80. Any ideas what the issue is. Many thanks David

POST 2Original post

Does the light come on solid, or is it flashing? If solid, in theory, it would indicate the coolant temperature is too high, but it seems that isn't the case. See: https://www.porscheclubgb.com/forum/threads/cooling-fans-coolant-warning-light.144899/

POST 3Original post

Ours did that once, checked the level and it was a bit down then eventually one of the rads started leaking badly. Make sure the coolant is up to max.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the advice much appreciated

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

It flashes, so wondering if it goes out due to the water expanding, after third start. Really appreciate your help and link. Thanks

POST 6Original post

many errors codes are disabled after 3 starts.., if the fault persists the errror code (the warning light) will return

POST 7Original post

I don’t know if it’s the same on your 996 but on my 987.2 Cayman [and presumably on the 997] a solid coolant warning light indicates a high coolant temperature and a flashing light a low coolant level. As Tim has mentioned, it may be that you have a coolant leak, so best to keep an eye on the level on a regular basis. Jeff
